This paper contained a very excel lent description of Dr. Wilson's a mongfthe lowest forms of animal life which coming under the general type Pelomyxa, he has appropriately narted Carolinenses. The char acter, forms and habits of this new ,. species of Rhizopod were minutely described, as was also its method of food jetting" and thrusting out of protoplasm in search of stimulus. It was further more shown that al though the Carolinenses is clearly a Pelomyxa yet the peculiar char acter it assumes causes i t to re semble more nearly the recently dis covered Argentine Republic species. Owing" to the sickness of Dr. F. P. Venable the presentation of a paper byhim, the next thing on the pro-j gram was postponed to another; meetiny. , j Dr. Baskerville next made a very! interesting" report of 4A case of Spon taneous Combustion in a Cotton Mill' upon the explanation of which he had spent some conside able time during the past fall. This case of fire originating from spontaneous combustion was shown to have been brought about primarily by oxid ation of the tallow contained in the cotton yarn, and accelerated by the liberation of the oxides of nitrogen due to the acidity of the tallow. , Dr. Baskerville concluded the pro gram for the evening- by giving a very graphic description of the new ly invented Nernst Incandescent Lamp. The principle upon which this lamp depends was clearly point ed out, namely, that magnesium ox ide, which does not ordinarily con duct electricity, when heated at a certain temperature acts as aeon ductor of electricity.
