The manager of the track team is endeavoring to arrange, an inter scholastic t rac k m ee t be t v ee n the various preparatory schools of the state, this meet is to lie held at the University on a field day to be se lected later. This seems to us to be a splendid idea. In the first place such a meet would stimulate interest in track athletics at prep schools,' where such ' stimulus is greatly needed. Then, too, through bringing students from the prep schools here to the annual meet certain men who would other wise go elsewhere to college might be attracted to enter the Univer sitythe meet would act 'as an advertisement. Further the men whom it might serve to bring here would be men who had already had experience on the track and hence would go directly to strengthen that branch of our athletics. We hope that the interscholastic meet will be secured. CERTAIN men who lack energy atid nerve enough themselves to put on suits and' go . out on the ball field have been' making a habit of going out on the side lines during the few days past and guying the players. Such conduct is hardly fitting for University men. They shonld get behind the men out on the diamond and. give them a few rousing yells, in order to open up the season right. A whole lot depends upon starting right. Let's begin by making the candidates' for N. C.'s feel encour aged rather than embarrassed. It grieves us greatly to see the manner; in which the good brethren are beating the devil around the stump over in the Y. M. C. A. building. Pool and bil lards are tabooed on the Hill. Instead of going straight at the matter and showing that pool' and billards are strictly respectable games the Y. M. C. A. authorities have secured pool tables with little pegs stuck all over them and", have beguiled the boys into punching billard balls about over them in the belief that they are playing cuero quet a mixture of " pool, billiards and croquet. Now anybody that has ever played croquet knows that it absolutely refuses to mix with anything else. It is in a class all by itself, iortunately. If the Y. M. C. A. wishes to make us neg lect our studies and grat our classes in pursuit of the festive sphere across the green felt why does it not give us a table about which the said spere' may whiz joj'ously with out fear of running amuck of num berless pegs, and causing utter destruction to our religion' thereby? The pegs on the Y. M, C. A's. cueroquet tables annihilate more religion in sixty seconds than the Y. M. C. A. can possibly recon struct in as many hours. Give us the real thing, say we. , Up in Virginia they are talking about instituting a reformatory for girls who are addicted to flirting. We want to register a kick right here. In Norfolk and Richmond when there is a Virginia-Carolina gaihe scheduled the girls just can't help smiling at every man that wear the white and blue. If a quietus is" to be put upon this what pleasure will there be in going to the games? and there will be some I more games all right, some time. j The Hill, may have its sensations as well as New York City. The Brock well trial Tuesday is only an illustration of the fact that a case in which two women and one man or two men and one woman figure is going to draw a crowd anywhere. " February German. In consequence of a recent ruling of the faculty the holding of the February german has' been discon tinued by the University German Club. Henceforth there will be but two regular gernians yearly, the November and April gernians. The latter will take place immedi ately after Easter. Dr. and Mrs. Smith Entertain. Dr. and Mrs. C.
