LOCAL NOTES The Tennis Association is having another tennis court built just vves of the gymnasium. A dramatic club has been org nized among" the students of the University lately. The name of S. H. Lyle. '08, has been added to the roll of the Odd Number Club. The Freshmen have elected L. Davenport captain of their basebal team and Battle manager. The installation of the officers of the Y. M. C. A. for 1907-8 oc cured Tuesday night. Dr. Eben Alexander, was in Washington City a few days last week on business for the Universi ty. " , The Modern Literature ' Club will hold its regular raonthlv meet ing in No. 16 Alumni at 7:30 to night. While North last week Dr C. H. Herty made an address before the students of the A. & M. Colleye of New Hampshire. Secretary P. B. Rankin of the Y. M. C. A. delivered the sermon at the first Presbyterian church, Kenansville, Sund;i37 morning. Professor M. C. S. Noble spoke before the Teachers Association of Lenoir County at Kinston Friday on "The Methods of Teaching in Scotch Normal Schools." Professor E. K. Graham will de liver the commencement address at The Charlotte graded schools this spring. Last Ma' Professor Graham delivered the commence ment address at the Greensboro graded schools. Appropriation Increased. Shortly before its closing session the Legislature passed the appro priation bill, one clause of which provides for the increase of the State's annual appropriation for the support of the University from $45,000 to $70,000. Be sides this the amount of $25,000 was voted for this year for the purpose of making permanent improvements in the equipment oi the institution. German Club Officers. At a recent meeting the German Club elected the following officers for the year 1907-8: Hubert Hill, president. J. H. Manning, vice-president. Wayne Archer, secretary. J. G. Hanes, treasurer. Mr. Holt Haywood was elected leader of the April german and Mr. Hubert Hill was elected leader of the October german for next fall. Class Championship Series. The managers of the different class baseball teams, with Mr. F. B. Rankin of the Advisory Commit tee as spiritual advisor, have ar ranged the following series of class championship games, in which there will be positively no changes: Mch. 22-Sophs vs. Juniors. 44 23-Fresh vs. Seniors. 29-Sophs vs Seniors. 44 30-Pharmacy vs. Law. Apr. 1-Fresh vs. Sophs. 9-Pharmacy vs. Meds. 44 13-Law vs. Meds 44 15-Fresh vs. Juniors. 44 18-Seniors vs. Juniors. 44 30-Championship game. The championship game will be played between the winners in the profesional and academic depart ments. The team winning this championship game will be allowed to play one game off the Hill. This game will be arranged by Mr. Ran kin, who has been selected by the Advisory Committee as supervisor TRADE WITH Pickard & Strowd DEALERS IN University Sermon. Rev. E. M. Poteat, president of Furman University, will preach in in the Universitv Chapel on Sunday evening, March 17th, at 7:30 o'clock. This will be the regular University sermon for the month of March. The University orchestra and glee club will be present to furnish music for the occasion. Chemical Journal Club. Graham, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Davidson College, will preach before the stu dents of the University in the chapel at 7:30 tonight and tomorrow night, and on Sunday afternoon at 3:30. . Mr. Graham has been ad dressing college men for a period of fifteen years and is said to be a speaker of much power. Another Tennis Tournament. The Tennis Association, will hold another racket tournament this spring. A $5.00 racket has already been secured as first prize and the officers of the association are en deavoring to secure several others to fill out the list. All those Who are not members of the association and wish to enter the tournament should hand their names to Mr. G. M. Fountain, president of the assoc iation, at once. The union fever struck the col lege servants last week and they went on a strike for higher wages. Their requests were not granted and consequently two of them. Johnson and Bill McDade, stepped down and out. As a result the residents of the "Carr Barn" and certain portions of the Old East and Old West are clamoring loudly for letter janitor service. Cornell's Southern Games. There are seven games with South ern teams on Cornell's schedule this year. Of these seven four are to be played in North Carolina. They are: March 23, A. & M.
