Sijjfnors Don Carlos, Don Ruy Gomez, and Hernani, with two star-performing bears, Jo and John, were the center of attraction on the campus outuraay afternoon, ivs the clarion notes of Don Ruy Gomez's horn rano; out on the pro found calm of the spicy spring afternoon, the students and the village small boys came, two hun dred strong. Don Carlos, 'acting" in a manner entirely unbecoming to his dignity, helled oft his travel-battered hat and announced that for $20. the bears would do some stunts and that for one dollar more Hernani and Jo would engage in a wrestliug" match. The coins fell not fast enough for Don Carlos' taste, and he enquired in a plaintive voice, "Where is dat Vic-Collier's man? He will gif me someting. " When the purse had been made up, the bears waltzed, and played the soldier and the rough-rider. Then Hernani removed his hat, and the wrestling- contest was on. Long" they struggled, clinging to each other lovingly, the man breath ing strang-e foreign oaths, the bear indulging" in numerous grunts. Ex citing" it was the latter part of the V. P. I. game was not in it. The brute strength of Jo, however, was too much for Hernani, who was thrown; but not conquered. Again ther clinched, again Hernani fell. Twice more they struggled, and at last Hernani retired crestfallen. Then quoth Don Carlos, "For feefty cents John will climb-a de tree." The lucre came, and John, grace fully as only a bear can, ascended and decended one of the giant oaks. The crowd was bled; the per formance ended, and the perform ers, with a flourish of trumpets, departed in great pomp, accompan ied by sundry small boys. Class Tennis.
