Single Copiks. 5 Cents. The Tar Heel, now makes its last appearance before Commence ment. Between this issue and the double issue which will chronicle the events of the one hundred and twelfth annual Commencement of of the University many things will come to pass. Many students will blossom into full-fledg-ed alumni and then it is rumored that there are to be two Senior-Faculty base hall irames. There will be too much "doing" for there to be any danger of the college being con sumed by ennui for there are a few examinations to be passed incidentally. It is with a feeling of assurance that they will not be lonesome that The Tar Heel, bids its subscribers farewell for the coming four weeks. But, by the way, as we started to say at the outset, do not forget to hand the price of your subscription to the business manager at once, if you have NEGLECTED TO DO SO THUS FAR. The old adage as to the spilled milk of course always applies. Nevertheless The Tar H EEL feels that it could not conscientiously keep silence on the subject of the Virginia games. Last spring, with more or less airing of lofty ideals on the subject of clean ath letics, the University of North Car olina submitted a series of athletic rules to the University of Virginia. These rules not being accepted ath letic relations between the two institutions were suspended pend ing their acceptance. This has notyet come, to pass, but the base ball season saw two games sched uled with Virginia. We had a sneaking feeling that everybody ought to know how the miracle was worked, besides, we experienced a fear that perhaps, out of zeal for our athletic interests someone might be inclined to overlook prin ciples. We were assured that there Was no danger of this occur ring and that through mutual con cessions and arbitration the matter would be adjusted. Feeling still somewhat hazy we decided to await developments. As they have devel oped no arbitration has been .heard of, and if Virginia made any con cessions they hive not over been apparent. Johnson, the man whom all the trouble arose last fall, played in both games against us this spring. From the looks of things Carolina has eaten a goodly portion of her words and enjoyed the mess. To the out sider it cannot but appear that she has knuckled under and let principle go anywhere it wanted to. This is a pity. After stating so plainly principles that were right, the University should have stood up for them. We cannot see how her recent action can other than weaken her prestige as standing for pure athletics. Rumor has it that the eligibility rules will eliminate next year from competition for places on the Uni versity's athletic teams all those who have ever witnessed the play ing of a game of ball of any nature whatsoever as well as all those who have ever seen a baseball or football before coming to the Hill. That isn't such a long step from the present system after all and yet Carolina is expected to compete creditably with her opponents. Woggle Bug Coming Again !
