It has formed largely the topic of conversation among- the students since Tuesday night, and there is no doubt but that no small amount of good was accomplished. Yacfcety Yack. News. The contract for the printing of Yackety Yack has been awarded to the Queen City Printing Company of Charlotte. This company did the printing last year and though the book was late in appearing, the quality of the work was good. The cuts tjiis year will be made by the Christopher Engraving Com pany of Richmond. It is to be hoped that the business managers will not have to spend huge amounts of their substance sending "hurry" telegrams to the engrav ers, as was the order of the day last year. Mr. Eagles, the editor-in-chief, says that the work is going forward rapidly under his ' new committee system, and that with the cooper ation of the students inhaving their pictures made right away and handing in their statistics by the specified time he is sure that the copy will be in the hands of the printers in ample time so that the book may appear before commencement,.,,-, The Mitchell Society. The 174th meeting of the Elisha Mitchell Scientific Society was held in Chemistry Hall Tuesday night. The papers presented were as fol lows: ' "Some Phenomena of Coalescence and Regeneration in Sponges," by Dr. H. V. Wilson. "Analytical Control of Cotton Seed Oil Manufacture," by Dr. Charles H. Herty. "The Volatile Oils of Pinus Talda and Pines Echinata," also by Dr. Herty. FOUND A pair of nose glasses. Owner can get same by calling at Tar Heel office. Medical Society Organized. The members of the second year medical class met Thursday night and organized a society under the name of The Medical Society of the University of North Carolina. A need has long been felt here for some organization that would train the student to do some work along original lines and then be able to1 report his results in an intelligent and comprehensible manner. Such is the purpose of this society. An other feature of note is the consti tution, which provides for member ship by scholarship only. The of ficers of the society in the future will be elected from the twelve best men of the first year class at the close of the first year. It is thought this will awaken interest among the first year men. Such societies as this are pros pering at all other large medical schools, and we see no reason why it should not have the same success here. ' Much credit for this move ment should be given Mr. E. H. Kloman, one of the instructors of the medical department, who has put forth every effort since the first of the year to bring about this end, and his election as president is only a just recognition of his services. The following were the officers elected: Dr. I. H. Manning, honorary president; E. H. Kloman, president; J. C. Wiggins, vice-president; J. M. Davis, treasurer; A. C. McCall, secretary. The following committee adopted the constitution and by-laws: E. H. Kloman, J. R. Shull, and R. E. Swann. Track News. A meet with Clemson on our own track is hoped for, if suitable ar rangements can be concluded. It is a number of years since a meet has been held here and while the peculiar location of our track will make a meet difficult, it is hoped that satisfactory financial ar rangements may be made. If the men will get back of the team mor ally, and of the manager financially, they and he will promise you a good team and a good meet. The trip this year will probably be to Richmond, to tneet Richmond College. No guarantee has been made, but again it the students will but back the team, no difficulty is looked for. R. C, has shown us a few things in football they want to try it again at track. These two .meets will probably be all at tempted this spring. '. It might be of interest to all pos sible candidates to know that the method of awarding Field Day prizes will be varied this year. In past years, prizes were given all first place men. Anything left over went to the second. This year second place men will get the prizes, and anything left over will go to the thirds. The usual prizes will probably be given.
