Coach Stocksdale ar rived on the Hill last week and has had his men out on the diamond every afternoon. He seems to have made a most favorable impression upon the students. The talk that he made to the candidates on the first practice day, promising" a square deal to every man regard less of class, age, or previous ex perience, was such as to inspire confidence and establish the proper footing- between coach and players. In reviewing . Mr. Stocksdale's record as a player and as a man, one comes readilv to the conclusion that Carolina is indeed fortunate in securing" such a man to look after her interest on the diamond Though it has been years since we played Trinity College, it is a fact that she has had one of the best teams in the State owing largely to Mr. Stocksdale's power as a coach. We see, then, no reason why, with the large number of candidates that have reported for practice and with a perfect under standing- between Coach and play ers, Carolina should not put in the field one of the best teams she has Miss Wilson Dead. Miss Mamie Wilson, sister of Dr. T. J. Wilson, Jr., was found dead in bed yesterday morning. She seemed to be perfectly well upon retiring- Tuesday night and her death is supposed to have been due to heart disease. About six thirty o'clock yesterday morning" Mr. Llorens, a Cuban stu dent, who rooms in the office build ing in the yard, according to his custom tapped on the window of Miss Wilson's room , to wake her. Receiving- no response he tapped again and again, and finally waked little Miss Helen Brown, neice to I Miss Wilson, who was sleeping" with her. She attempted to wake her aunt, but failing" she ran up stairs to call her grandmother. Mrs. Wilson came down and she too could get no response from her daughter. Dr. W. B. MacNider was immed iately sent for, and upon investiga tion he found that Miss Wilson was dead. The interment will take place this afternoon at the Chapel Hill cemetery. The success of our baseball team depends largely on the non-playing students. Manager Gray has done his part, there is no doubt , but that Coach Stocksdale and Captain James will do their parts, and it is nov, up to the students. Play if you can; if you cannot, do every thing in your power to help and encourage the men who do try tor places on the team. And you can not begin your work too early. Now is the time. Edgar Jackson Riggsbee was our friend, and it was with a sense of personal loss that we heard of his death. As we have mentioned elsewhere in these columns, he was generous and frank, and an inimi table story-teller. Many a time have we sat almost for hours at a time and listened to his delightful flow of anecdotes. To the be reaved parents we extend our deep est sympathy.
