Entered in the Postoffice at Chapel Hill, N. 0., as second-class matter. the thing- and to give whatever ideas he may have for the improve merit of the college life. We have been wondering if such an occasion would not be of value at this Uni versity. We have often felt that students and faculty here are not well enough acquainted. Possibly such an occasion would help mat ters. . When all has been said, if the Junior Prom festivities did nothing more, they caused the presence here of nearly fifty of the fair daughters of the State. Doesn't this mean happiness, my brethren? Printed by The University Press, Chapel Hill. Subscription Price. 91.80 per Year Payable in advance or during- first term. Single Copies. 5 Cents. The Junior Prom festivities were a great success. The Dramatic Club made a hit, the Senior recep tion was enjoyable, the Washing ton birthday exercises were enter taining and instructive, and the dances were nothing short of brilliant. And it does our heart good . As has been said in these columns be fore, such an occasion, if thought of at all two years ago, existed merely in the brain of some dreamer as something that might come to pass in the distant future. But it has happened and we believe that a brighter day has dawned for the social life of the Uuiversity. We long to see the time when the divid ing line between the f rats and the non-frats will pass away com pletely. And unless the pendulum swings backward such a time is not far in the future. The dollar fee clause for , the Athletic Association was adopted by the vote of the majority, yet only one hundred and twenty-five men have joined. Why did the others Vote for it? Manager Gray has season tickets for sale, and it i,s necessary for him to sell enough to justify the issuance. Help him. You will save about $3. The baseball men say that Coach Stocksdale has made them sore physically. He has begun the training in earnest, and while there has been little ball playing as yet, he has been putting the men through a course of physical culture that would delight the heart of Karl Jansen. The tin canning process ' began Monday and will continue gradually. The fact, however, that a man has been tin canned does not mean he is forbidden the use of the field, for One end of the park has been set aside for the use of any one that desires to play . And just here Mr. Stocksdale has departed from the former way of doing things. He has shown that not only is he anxious to put a.good 'varsity team on the field, but also to train those who have no hope of making the team this year. The students are realizing that in Mr. Stocksdale they have a "coach who is a coach." AT the University of Virginia the students and faculty meet once a month for the purpose of getting better acquainted and of discussing questions of interest to the Univer sity at large. These occasions are called "University Hours." They are informal and each student is ex pected to enter into the spirit of Virginia's Schedule.
