LOCAL NOTES. Dr. R. O. E. Davis spent Monday in Greensboro. Work on the tennis park has been resumed and is progressing- rapidly. Mr. W. A. Smith has been initi ated into the Kappa Sigma fratern ity. Mr. W. S. Dickson is confined to the infirmary with a mild case of pneumonia. Mr. W. W. Card, physical direc tor at Trinity College was on the Hill Saturday. Dr. H. V. Wilson has begun the erection of a residence building on "Faculty Row." Mr. J. C. Gatlin, who has been dangerously ill with pneumonia, is recovering rapidly. Dr. I. H. Manning will relieve Dr. C. S. Mangutn on March 1st. as College physician. Saturday, Febuary 29, is the last day of this term on which you may join the athletic association. Mr. Robert Gant. a Junior at Trinity College, was here last week visiting Mr. T. L. Simmons. Mr. J, F. Spruill, traveling rep resentative of the Underwood View Company, has been spending a few days here. Miss Mai nor, who has been here in attendance upon Mr. J. C. Gatlin. has returned to Watt's Hospital in Durham. Bishop Strange, an alumnus of the University, who has. charge of this diocese, will pay his annual visit to Chapel Hill Sunday. Mr. L. F. Hawley, of Washing ton, D. C, who is in the Forestry service, was here last week in conference with Dr. C. H. Herty W. L. Long, '09, who has been at Northampton and Richmond for several weeks having Ins eyes treated, returned to the Hill Monday. Rev. Leroy Gresham spoke be fore the Y. M. C. A. Tuesday night. He made a yery good talk on "Gambling, its motive and its con sequences." A German Coach stallion, cost ing $3000, has recently been pur chased by a stock company com posed of Prof. H. H. " Williams and several of the business men of the town. Mr. C. W. Tillett, of Charlotte, was here Monday visiting his sous, Messrs. Charlie and John. Mr. Tillett delivered an address at Trinity College Saturday on '"Lying.";.,,,;.., The Virginia Dramatic Club, presenting " La Serena," a Mex ican musical comedy, played at several of the Virginia cities last week. There are about forty people in the cast. Mr. T. R. Eagles requests those, who wish to join the athletic asso ciation or to pay the fee, to see C. B. Ruffin, C. W. Tillett, K. D. Battle, D. B. The preliminaries for the Car olina debate was held in 'Wash' Hall on Saturday night After a hot contest Brooks, and W. W. Fry, were chosen for the team and Williams as alternate. The judges were Profs. Graves, Thornton and Faulkner. The team will meet Carolina in Richmond on April 3nd. College Topics. Inter-Collegiate Preliminaries, The Virginia preliminary will be held tonight in the Dialectic Society hall at 7:30 o'clock. The question is: Resolved : That the national banks should be allowed to issue, subject to tax and governmental supervision, notes on their general assets. The contestants are: Messrs. J. W. Hes ter, J.T. Johnston, T. L. Simmons and I. Willis. The Georgia prelimin ary will be held Monday .night. The question is: Resolved, That the State should not prescribe a maximum rail way rate.
