LOCAL NOTES. Mr. Hall Worth, 05, of Ashe boro, was here last week. Mr. Paul Schenck, of Greeus boro, spent a few days on the Hill last week. Presiding- Elder J. B. Hurley, of Durham, preached two excellent sermons at the Methodist church Sunday. Mr. N. S. Plummer was released Monday from the infirmary, where be had been confined with the mumps. Mr. Tom Sutton, '07, who is in the real estate business at States ville, was on the Hill Tuesday and Wednesday. The members of the Dramatic Club returned to the Hill Wednes Hav nio-tir.. Thpv sav that Eastern -e,-- j j North Carolina is "all to the good." Mr. W. Ey Lindsay, the new postmaster, assumed charge of Uncle Sam's postal business here Monday morning-. He will be as sisted by Mr. W. H. Parker. Mr. Wade Stockard, of Greens boro, will be at Central Hotel Monday nig-ht and Tuesday for the purpose of fitting- the clothing1 or dered by the students from T. A. Walker and Co. At the regular monthly meeting of the Modern Literature Club held Thursday night Prof. E. K Gra ham presented a paper on "Lords and Lovers', a book of plays by Olive Til ford Da rg-en." The male population of Chapel Hill was invited by the Y. M. C. A. to attend an informal spread at Pickard's Hotel Monday - nig-ht. Dr. D. Clay Lilly was present and made a talk on missions. At a meeting- of the Dramatic Club held in The Tar Heel office Tuesday night Mr. Potter was ex tended a vote of thanks for his faithful work in preparing- "The Rivals" for the 'stage. The mem bers all felt that the success of the play was due larg-ely to the efforts of Mr. Potter and were enthusias tic in their praise of him. The Economics Society. The Economics Society met in the Alumni building Monday night to discuss the query that we are to debate with Virginia. Messrs, J. T. Johnston and J. W. Hester, our representatives against Vir ginia, were present and led the dis cussion. The query discussed was Resolved, that national bauks be allowed to issue notes on their gen eral assets subject to tax and super vision by the government. Messrs. Hester and Johnston championed the negative, while Messrs. Osborne and Lewis, as the Virginia scrubs, took up for the affirmative. The meeting was very lively and inter esting, as several members of the club joined in the discussion. Dr. Raper, in particular, showed his interest in the question by his many valuable suggestions and criticisms. Ross Crane Coming. Ross Crane, the great cartoonist, and his company "canvases and crayons, modeling-board and clay, and the piano, to say nothing of the piano-stool" will appear in Gerrard Hall Friday, March 13, under the auspices of the Y. M. C. A. This artist comes well recom mended, and it is said that he is equal to Alton Packard, who makes such a hit every time he comes to Chapel Hill. Secretary Rankin i noted in these parts as one who knows how to secure en tertainments that entertain, and it is certain that in this instance he has not failed. Tickets may be se cured at Eubanks's Drug Store. The prices are 35 and 50 cents. Fiddlers' Convention. ' "Ye Olde Tyme" 'Fiddlers' Con vention will be held at the Canada School building Thursday and Fri day nights of this week. A list of about twenty-five contestants has been published, and still others are expected to enter. Among the con testants are Mr. J. T. Benbow, of the medical department, Mr. J. B. Whittington, of the pharmacy de partment, both of whom will play the banjo, and Mr. Moore, who will do a dancing stunt. . Prizes of $5, $2, and $1 will be awarded to the three best players, on each the fiddle and the banjo, and $2 will be given to the best dancer. Part of the proceeds will be given to the school. The prices are 25, 50, and 75 cents. Seats are on sale at Eubanks's Drug Store and the Athletic Store. Trinity's Schedule. Manager J. M. Bingham School, Mebane, March 6. An attractive list of base ball games has been arranged for the season. It will be the aim of the manager and Cadet Corps to put such restrictions around athletics as will eliminate ob jectionable features, and written reso lutions have been drawn up and signed limiting the number of games to be played, holding the games on weekly holidays, as far as consistent and pre venting athletics from interfering with the scholarship of the school.
