It mig-ht be well to state that there is a new fountain head for the copy for the Tar Heel. Or more properly it might be termed a new faucet for the hydrant. t We mig-ht not furnish this information but for tne fact that there will most likelv be a -lack somewhere. To keep it from leaking out that the former editor is not guilty, we ab solve him now. But we state further that in spite of the change in space fillers, that there has been uochang-e in politics. The Tar Heel may not recover sufficientlv to look the same, but it will have the same feelings we need a coach tor the track and basketball teams. It is more than pleasing to have our alumni take an interest in the conditions at the University, Es pecially do we feel this when they criticize constructively, Like most institutions and most people we are open to criticism. When this crit icism is given in the spirit usually shown by our alumni we welcome it, and thank them. Whether we can put into use the suggestions offered, we shall consider them upon their merits, and as offered by our best friends, In the midst of all the recent discussion of our athletic conditions the student body has for the most part been silent. We have not for gotten Thanksgiving day, but we don't want to talk about its happen ings until we have reversed its de cisions. The studen ts have been trying to find out how to correct our present weakness, not how to make " Virginia Jess strong. We want her to have a good team, but we want a better. As a result of our head scratch ing about the campus and during holidays there has formed in the minds of a large part of the student body a desire for a physical trainer for the football squad- This trainer is also to be a coach of the basket ball and track teams. We think that we should have some perma nent fixture in athletics and the trainer is the proposition which offers itself. He would be the best adviser of the head coach on account of his knowledge of the men in the foot ball squad. Knowing more men better thari .anyone else he would know what they could do. There would be little or no danger of Track Team Prospects Captain Shaw of the track team requests that all candidates for the track team report for work next week. Cross-country running will be begun at once. When the weath er is too bad for outdoor work the candidates will be given some work in the gym. Association football will also be played, so that" the men can develop their wind. Manager Eames auounces that he is endeavoring to arrange three meets.
