We do but that goes without saying. It would, in truth, be a graceless crowd who would fail to be glad of the coming of the man, who may be reckoned as the biggest man of New England. That makes him big enough to get recognition anywhere. Carolina pays him the honor due a great man, and thanks him for coming to see us. the best team win! If a visiting team can take a game from us, let's take our medjpine, as our team al ways does,, without flinching or be coming sour. The town keeps no clothing which the students will buy. But it in tends to get all the students' money that it can. It's too bad, we know, that every cent of the student can not be removed from him. But this : tt i - . . : cannot De done altogether. A cer tain wise man of the town has aptly uescriDea the town in the manner of this, "Tom Lloyd built the cotton mill, the State the University, and trod Almighty the hills, and the three make Chapel Hill." This is sad, but the truth. Now, little town, don't you see that you can't get all of our money? Being good Democrats you dislike a tarrif Does the fact that this is an unpro tective tarrif make it more reasonable? Now is a good time to remind ourselves ot the courtesy due to visiting teams. We want to give the spectators the view of the visit ing players. We have never been enough of a ball player to visit on a college team, but we have played ball away from home. The visiting team does not mind the rooting for their opponents. , They do not mind good natured raillery so long as it is impersonal. But personal re marks, jeering at a siflgle member of a visiting team, leaves a bad taste in the mouths of all. It is hard to make the object of personal slurs feel that he has been in the company of gentlemen. Of course it is no spirit of unfairness that causes the man on the bleach ers to jeer at a poor play upon the part of one of the ! visiting players. But such is unfair and unsportsman like.
