Brides of Yale as coach of the football team is the recent ses curing of Nat J. Cartmell, of Pennsyl vania, to be trainer and coach of the track team. Cartmell is in England now and will report for duty March 10. A movement was inaugurated last year to establish the position of trainer here. The depleted condition of the athletic treasury has long hindered this impor tant move. The university authorities and the I athletic committee, with, the aid of student contributions, have fi nally made possible the successful es tablishment of this additional fixture in the university's athletic system. The work and influence of a trainer is every essential to the highest devel opment of the university's athletic pos sibilities. In colleges and universities where the amateur and restricted sys tem of athletics obtains a trainer is absolutely necessary for the success of the 'varsity teams. The trainer look- to the development of the athletic ca pabilities of the entire student body. He directs with intelligence the devel opment of all athletic possibilities. During the football season he de votes his attention to the physical con dition of the players,directs their man ner of life and keeps the human ma" chine to its highest efficiency. " In the pring while interested in all forms of athletics he will be the special coach of the track team.
