After this, cigars were passed around and the "members retired filled with love for their alma mater. This club is a very enthusias tic one arid is probably the strongest school club in the university. The Alamance County Club held its regular monthly meeting in the Y. M. C. A. house Monday night at 7:15, with all members present- Two very interesting- papers were read on subjects connected with the history of the county, The first paper was entitled "Cornwallis at Snow Camp" by W. T. Henley, "HEEGIE" AND"ICHABOIV ALSO MAKE STRONG EFFORTS ' The biggest mass meeting of the year hear Messrs. Vermont . Pearson and Lawson The greatest mass meeting Of the year come off in Chapel Thursday nightj - A. magnificent bonfire gave an auspicious start to the enthusiasm. Ten minutes after the flames of the bonfire had begun to die down there were assembled in Gerrard Hall six hundred heart and sou! backers of Car. olina's team. ! Mr. Adolph Vermont, who, tho a for eigner he came among us, today loves our alma mater as his own, started the speeches of the occasion. Mr. Ver mont's words were enough' to fire j a steam engine. The team ignited im mediately, j After Mr. Vermont had done Dr. Lawson was demanded by the students and he was caught with the goods, as usual. Dr. Lawson proceeded to give some facts about the team's physica condition According to Dr. LawsOn most of the team are in good condition physically.' When Dr. Lawson had finished his remarks some one saw, in the back of the hall, an old alumnus, Mr J T. : Gil bert Pearson, of Greensboro. niWhen Mr.Pearson took the stand he announc ed that he had reached the goal of his ambition to be applauded at a Garoli, na n.ux meeting." : Mr. Pearson,' as 'a member of that wide-spread, loyal throng of Carolina alumni, reminded the team that eyes would be turned to ward them Saturday from every part of the state. Mr. Hogue next caught the eye of some body and of course nothing would do but that he be heard from, aad that immediately. Mr, Hogue made three points for th consideration of the team. He said first , that V. P. I.'s team was probably stronger than ours, not that our team has not done all tha they could but that V. P. I. had more experienced players; second, that in athletics it is always the pure man that has the best nerve, the strongest intel lect; third, that the man with the han dicap, when he has the proper spirit within him, often comes out ahead of his opponent. Mr. Hogue seemed to fear all along that he was boring his audience. No one has accused him of it. It was now quite late and the chair man of the occasion started to close the meeting1. The crowd however was not yet fully satisfied. Coach Brides had to be heard from. The coach said that he had all kinds of confidence in the boys on the team. And promised that they would make themselves known. An eighth wonder was added for the world when Garret, Porter, and "Hed- gie" arose and made their debuts as mass meeting orators. They must have been strongly moved indeed. The mass meeting adjourned. Every man feeling proud of his team whether they win or lose.
