Martin St., Raleigh, N. C. Bingham of Asheville makes best showing. Asheville school and Greensboro have good teams Greater interest has been taken In football by the preparatory and high schools of North Carolina during the season of 1901) than ever before. All the leading preparatory schools, except Oak Ridge, put teams on the gridiron, wnne ingn scnooi lootbau received a decided boost. The championship honors, without doubt, go to Bingham Cscnool or Asheville. With a compar atively light team, they went through the season without a single defeat and ended the season with a 3 to 0 victory over Mooney School of Tennessee, thereby claiming the Southern Prepar atory School championship. Greens boro High School had a remarkable team composed almost entirely of bantam-weights. Their season was very successful, closing with a 6 to 0 victory over the Carolina Freshmen and a 24 to 0 victory over High Point. Horner Military School had the best team it has put out in recent years, winning all the games played and having the goal line crossed only once. The Asheville School team was below the high stan dard of the eleven which represented that institution last year, but made a very creditable showing. Warrenton Hiffh School had a strong team,- but didn't round into form until late in the season. Durham High School had fast and snappy aygregfation. The Raleigh, Wilmington, High Point, Rocky Mount, Kinston and Goldsboro High Schools, Donaldson Military Academy of Fayetteville and theBing ham School of Mebane were represent ed by good teams. In the selection of the All-State Prep, team, we have exercised as much care, as possible in order to give every team and man a fair show. Owmr to the fact that we have not seen all the learns in action we have been compelled to call upon the coaches of ihe respec tive teams and to relv to a considera ble extent on their judgment and news paper reports of the game played. We hplieve that the first eleven is the strongest team that can be selected The second eleven, while almost as heavy,is not quite the equal of the first selection in all-round make-up. ihe third v eleven, oh account of lack of weight and experience, is not as strong and aggressiue as the second. WINS ANNTHER MATCH WITHOUT LOSING ANYTHING Nine sets out of ten and this one lost in doubles. Carolina men too strong for Davidson f. The Tennis team of the University of North Carolina added another stone to the foundation of its claims for the championship honors in Dav idson last Friday and Saturday Both teams entered into the match with confidence and respect for their opponents. Davidson had just won from Trinity and Carolina had a long string of victories already to credit. In the doubles, which were played Friday afternoon, Davidson was rep resented by Messrs. Crawford and McClintock, the same men who played on her team last year. The evening was a tine one tor tennis and a large crowd witnessed the contest. In spite of these conditions, however, the play ing of neither side was up to their usual standard. Both sides well but both missed many chance. Carolina won bv work at the net. In spite of the poor exhibition the evening before there was a good crowd along the alleys. Both teams in the singles showed a reverse of form and the playing was exceedingly speedy. Both matches were concluded in one hour and fifteen minutes. In the first match, between Venable and Crawford, Venable won easily altho the playing was swift to the last The scoi e: Venable 6-6-6 Crawford 0 - 3 - 1 In the singles between Fountain and McClintock the playing was es pecially fierce in the first set. Foun tain tried to take the net on every point and McClintock passed him with remarkable success. After this first set tho McClintock became wild and Fountain won the last twe sets with out losing a game. The score: Fountain 6-6-6 McClinock 4-0-0 The Carolina men report that while at Davidson they were most hospi tably treated in every respect. Tailor, DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA n A. O. Pickard & L. DeK.
