Single CcriKi Cents Those who are interested in track athletics will do well to notice what has been done at the University in the development of our tennis teams. Our tennis representatives are practically all developed here in college and each one has received his most valuable fnliimtr (in liii rlass tennis team. In llULUlUg ' " -. this instance class athletics have ac complished their purpose. They have developed varsity material. Some days ago in chapel Prof. E. K. Graham spoke a few words about r.lass track athletics. So far as we have been able to ascertain the senior class alone has taken action in the matter and made preparations for put ting a ciass track team to practice. Track athletics are becoming more and more prominent in American col leges. Yet here at the University they are far behind all other teams in the matter of development. Class teams are exactly what are needed to stimu late the interests of the student body and to develop material for the varsity team. Besides this class track teams will furnish exercise to many men who now do without it. By all means let each class get to work earnestly and have every preparation made and be ready for serious work by the time the track coach comes on the first ol March. Class baseball teams are beginning their work of practicing each after noon. The class field is always cover ed with players seeking exercise and trvinff to make their team. But the field they have to practice on is enough to take the ambition out of the mos enthusiastic. Ruts as much as a foot deep that have served as drains for all the heavy rains of the winter. Brush ready to grasp in fond embrace any outfielder who may stumble into them. The ruts keep the infielders scared of a grounder. The brush heaps keep the outfielders scared of a fly. Under comes below five thousand dollars per annum, would be a desirable modifica tion of our system of Federal taxation. Trinity has the negative. The de bate will be held at Sewanee, the last one being held in Durham. Raleiirh, Feb, 14. A meeting of the executive committee was held at the college on Thursday and Friday. Those present were: Chairman W. tt "n nf TUo-Vi Point, and J.J.. xvuaiL, vi "e ' Messrs. O. D. Clark, of Bladen, N. B. Stu-kley, of Cabarrus, N. B. Brough ton and C. W. Gold, of Raleigh. Twelve architects submitted plans for the electrical and engineering depart ments. After a careful study of these plans the committee accepted the plans of Architect Frank Ji. bimpson, of Raleigh. The board of trustees hopes to get this building constructed within the next year. This building will yive a welcome relief to the over crowded recitation rooms and laborato ries of "these departments. The site of the building has been decided upon. It is to be erected on the ground just west of the textile building, lying along Hillsboro street. The orosoect for a winning baseball team this year is exceedingly bright. Sexton, captain and pitcher, win round out his fourth year, and he may be depended upon to haue a good team. Tal Stafford, an old Raleigh high school star, and Robertson, a new man who is reported to be a twirler of no mean ability, will re lieve Sexton in the unimportant o-ames. "Dutch y" Seifert and John Council, both deserving men, will be !M irii rnmnftltion for catcher s olace. There is room for a new. man r. .... at the initial baer; Bost will be ex pected to do "stunts" around second base; Hartsell will cover shortstop in his usual magnificent way; Black will play at either third or first base. Ex- collsct material will cover the outer o-arden as Freeman, Brown, and an unlimited supply of new men. Coach Thompson has a squad of thirty men out each afternoon for practice, except r,-n fiavs Rv the first of March vt 1 in ., J j practice will begin in earnest, Mana srer Springs has just about completed the schedule, which will be ready for publication in a few days.
