I Night" at the beginning of each year
and printed in the first issue of the
I college paper. This paper, The Crim
son-White, in commenting on the new
system says:
"It is impossible to cultivate a spir

in the spirit and not in the letter. If
the spirit of honor is not-back of these
voluminous regulations, they are
worthless; and if the right spirit is
back of them, they are unnecessary."

The following may be of interest to
debaters:
George Washington defends the
following question, against the Uni
versity of California: Resolved, That
state, county, and city officers should
be. nominated by conventions rather
than by direct primaries. The debate
is to be held in California.
Says the Red and Black, (Ga.):
"The speeches for the N. C. debate
have all been in for some time and
the judges are about through with
them, so the contest will take place
in a day or two, and the representa
tives will de selected. The N. C. de
bate has always been an important
event in the calendar of the University,
and to make a place on the debate is
consequently quite an honor."
Georgia also debates Virginia and
Vanderbilt.
