C. 3 TRINITY I GLfE CLUB RECITAL SENIOR PERFORMANCE IN GER RARD HALL GREAT SUCCESS Sixty men fun play parts, than tin-canned dog More No more enjoyment has evei been furnished an audience in Gerrard Hall than was given Wednesday night by yepleasynge stunts of ye seniors. Sixty characters played their roles, most of whom had been changed from ordinary college students into first class niggers. ' While the entire program was car ried out with the greatest enthusiasm and more or less skill, several numbers were especially ludicrous. Ye loude songe of well-come by a doll baby chorus composed of the six-footers of 1910 began the performance. At the conclusion of this song Mr. J. W. Las ley appeared in doll baby costume to render a solo. Mr. Lasley looked very natural. Ye Coon Creek Courtship of J. A. Ilighsmitb. by L. N. Taylor was well played. All the imposing dignity of the former had vanished. He stood in the presence of his dusky belle, a very bashful nigger buck. Miss Grindstone, alias, "Pug"Tayior, ou the other hand was quite fetching in her gay hued robe and fluttering fan. The courtship proved successful and Rev. Mr. Royal was sought at once. The eyes of university students would fain have welled over with tears when a biei' was brought in bearing all that was mortal of Henry Smith, the horny-handed. As the funeral ex ercises progressed however, the tears remained indeed but sprung from mirth not from sorrow. In.the midst of the funeral oration the corpse arose. Caro record was 2-7 lowered : that to Hoffman takes two seconds state record for half mile run Carolina won' her first track meet Thursday, defeating her strongest riv al, Wake Forest, by the score of 66 to 52. ' - : A number of ladies as well as stu dents saw the Carolina team win nine firsts, five seconds, and six thirds out of twelve events. At shortly past 10: 20 the 100 yard clash began. For about sixty yards Winston led Cough- enour but the Wake Forest runner spurted ahead, and broke the tape wirh a couple of yards lead. Time 10 3-5 seconds. The high jump was closely contest ed and excitingly interesting. Hutch- ins and Williams seemed about equal until the bar was- placed at 5 feet 6 inches which Hutchins after three ef forts failed to go over, i Hoffman lived up to student expect ations when he walked away with the half mile run in the fastest time made on the "local track lina's best former sec. llorrmau nas 2-5.2 sec. " ' , ' When Parsley had pushed his last opponent to the wall at .9 ft. 6 in., he vaulted the bar at what merrs-nred on the standards 10 ft. 2 in., a net height of 9 ft. 9in. from rise to bar. In the 220 yard dash Coughenour again defeated Winston, time 24 sec. flat. Ruffin for Carolina outdistanced all and broke the tape in 17 1-5 sec. in the high hurdles. Murchison for Wake Forest won the quarter mile in 55 1-5 sec, but Wake ly and Solomon were on his heels and gave Carolina second and third places. Atkinson threw the hammer in good form, aud by the able aid of Thomp-, son won first and second places for Carolina in the event. Atkinson's throw measured 111 feet. Captain Williams took the broad jump at 20 feet 1 1-2 inches. The mile run was hotly contested. Hoffman, wearied from the half mile, was winded on the third round, and tho he went to the finish of the run, he was unable to win out as was ex pected even tho the final time was lower than his record in practice. Llorens' winning the race for Carolina was spectacular and roundly applaud ed. The Cuban took his place at the start and jogged along at a steady pace till the last lap. which he sprinted at high speed beating the Wake For runner easily. Barker's run of the 220 yard hurdles was speedy. He had a good lead and finished in 29 sec. "Big" Thompson put the shot 33 ft. 3 1-2 in. and won first place. Axley made a good showing, taking second easily. The relay race was slow tho not featureless. Harris started for Caro lina, and was outdistanced by a speedy Wake Forest runner. Grimsley when touched was off like a shot and gain ed some on his man, but when Thomp- SLOW GAME WITH SENSATIONAL i PLAYING AT TIMES Williams pitches well and gets I more hits himself than 1 opposing team By brilliant team work and hard hitting Carolina scored 3 runs on Trinity, the Navy's conquerors of the day' previous. Capelle and Ray win rounds of applause Another success was added to the achievements of Junior Week wren the University Glee Club and Orches tra gave their Easter recital in Ger rard Hall Thursday night. The ex cellence of the program showed care ful training and did credit to the sing ers and performers who rendered it. The applause was such as alwajs greets a hit in Gerrard Hall, and in response several encores ; were given. Most of the seats were taken, many fair visitors being present. Also, the visiting ball team occupied a promi nent position as guests of the club. Among the most applauded num bers were the baritone solo by Mr. Ca pelle, and the clarinet solo by Mr. Rights. Both responded with encores. "A Sad Affair," or the story of the saw-dust pain, also met . with decided ' approval, Mr. Ray playing the part of the unfortunate doll with expressive realism. Monday these musicians will leave for their eastern trip, on whicn they will visit the principal towns in east ern Carolina. Only a part of those who appeared in Gerrard Hall will go on this trip, and it is not -yet known who will be selected.
