Dr. J no. A. Ferrell, B. S.,1'02,
M. D., '07' U. N. C, has just been
appointed to the position of Assis
tant Secretary to the State Boa re
of Health. He is to be in charge of
the campaign in North Carolina for
the eradication of the hookworm.
The "Intercollegian", in its lat
est number, contained, among other
excellent articles, an . address by
Air. Frank P. Graham, A. B., of
the University of North Carolina.
The students here, no doubt, re
member the speech 'made by Mr.
Graham on College Night last fall
when he presented the Young Men's
Christian .Association to the' new
students. This was the address
printed by the "Intercollegian".
Dr. Stiles, during his recent visit
here, spoke with interest of George
F. Leonard, who is a medical stud
ent in Washington doing ; special
work under Dr. Stiles toward the
further research into the hook worm
disease and its damaging effects.
Mr. Leonard graduated here in
1907, and later studied medicine
here. During his 'senior year it
will be remembered that he was
president of the Y. M. C. A. Dr.
Stiles feels that Mr. Leonard's out
look is exceptionally good, as he
will be one of the pioneers in the
great hook worm war which is just
beginning to be waged.
