While in college Mr. Tay lor was foMwp years on the editorial staff of this paper, and gained further distinction as an actor of no mean abil-. ity in the Dramatic Club. ' Mr.' and Mrs, E. E. Barnett were "at home" to the students at Rev. Mr. Hogue's on Sunday night. Some thirty or forty students called during the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Barnett entertained their guests with reports from the conferences recently held ; at Lake George and Northfield, where missionaries-to-be had assembled for final instruction and conference. It seemed to be the feeling of the entire gathering of students at Mr. Hogue's that the University has two, instead of one, missionaries that it is sending to China. ; The Freshman Election On last Saturday night, it became noised abroad that the fieshmen were holding a meeting. But the wherea bouts of either the wiley freshmen or his nocturnal meeting place could not be ascertained. At last by resorting t6 stratagem, the information was ob tained from a freshman that his class mates were holding forth at the depot. It is a strange coincident that the hour chosen for the meeting was ex actly the time when the class of 1913 (unlucky number) were attending the literary societies. Upon drawing near to the scene of activity and above the rabble of the multitude, one could hear a voice in a more refined key clearly distinguish able by its commanding tone imploring the crowd to proceed to the election of officers and reassuring them that the sophomores were, pledged to abstain from, foolish pranks. If one had ever heard the voice before he could easily havesiugle,d it out as belonging to one of ourr ministerial students. After every one was assured by a fur tive glance that no lurking eavesdrop per was Trearpioniination& for president were in order. ' And then- the troubl e beganrrA-socialist election was indeed a tame aff airjtQmpared- with this; but after much balloting and vain babbling George .T.Clark emerged as a child of destiny and . was chosen by an over-whefmingjnajonty-Tliitigs proceeded snloothly fqrj a time,- vice-president and treasurer being elected with rapid-ity. fThe 'officers elected are as follows: president,; George T.
