THE .TAR .HEEL
Sportograms
A bunch of festivities are on the
card for this P. M. There will be
matinee of the Georgetown affair The
Freshmen and the Bingham (Mebane
outfit will chase - the pigskin on tlie
athletic field. The erentlemen of the
track; will conclude their performances.
These entertainments are scheduled so
as not to butt into each other.
Our footballists packed their little
bags and , departed for the White
House burg, Friday morni ig. There
are j twenty players in the bnnch
Winston, Garrett, Thompson, Brown,
Abernethy. Venable, Pember, Por
ter, Ruffin, Belk, Williams, Cham
bers, Will Tillet, Young, Apple
white, Parker, Stephens, Calmes,
Spain hour and Crutchfield, The quan
tity is there all right, but as to the
quality "mum's" the word at the pres
ent moment.
Closed gates have been the rule this
week., Thursday, the grates were
thrown open and quite a multitude be
took themselves to the sidelines. In z
gingery two period mixup the Varsity
nosed, out the scrubs 5-3. A very nice
article of. football was put up. Th
scrubs counted nrst. it or a time it
looked as if the Varsity were going to
be trimmed but they rallied, and after
Pember's 30 yard flank circle, Ruffin
went pver for the touchdown. Cham
ber Pember,.,, Will Tillet, Williams,
Winston and Ruffin performed well.
The Varsity has improved somewhat
since last Saturday but they are not
coin winning proposition yet, by a long
shot. They-are not working together
like a winning football team ought
to. Their interference is rather off
color. Furthermore but everything
will come out in the wash today. -We
have a chance to take this -game.
It s up to the team. If the boys will
just cut out the snoozing and play
some genuine 1905 brand football there
will.be a hot time in a little old town
called Washington, this afternoon.
Just a little more about that Yale-
Vanderbilt - encounter. Vandy, out
weighed .fifteen pounds to the man,
outplayed, Yale. They gained 90 odd
yards around Kilpatrick, YiileV Ail-
American end. They kept Yale from
scoring on Yale's own; gridiron, ! the
first time such a thing has ever hap
pened. With five minutes more . to
play according to one of the officials
the Southerners would have licked the
Yale Bull dog in his own back yard.
v Vandy, we offer you the sincerest
congratulations. -We wish the South
land bad a few more like you.
The two leadjng teams in the East,
so far, are Princeton and Harvard.
Both look mighty good. . It's almost a
sure bet that the 4 championship will
fall to one or the other.
Carlisle bumps against Penn today.
We hope the redmen get a bunch of
scalps but the odds favor the pale
faces.
Talking about being mean to fresh
men, just glance over the advertise
ment, vprinted tbelow. This poster
brought out in green ink, is the , pro
duction of certain fair sophomores Vat
Randolph-Macon. It is interesting as
being a peculiarly, , feminine ,way of
teasing freshmen. This is the poster.
