the people in other professions.
"After a person has made the choice
of teaching as his life work he should
next choose the class of people that he
would like to teach. Some people like
to teach children in public schools;
others like to teach young men or
young women in preparatory schools
or colleges. A person should be guid
ed in this selection by the class of
students he likes best or by the oppor
tunities in the different classes of in
stitutions. The next choice comes in
the subjects a person would, teach.
One should be governed in this, also,
by his love for the respective subjects.
Some people like sciences best; others
languages, history, economics, psy
chology or some other subject. A per
son should choose that subject which
he likes best and does best in.
"A teacher must be a practical per
son, in order to influence those in his
charge; he should have a love for his
work also. A teacher who is practical
and who loves his work, has a great
opportunity for exerting a wholesome
moral influence upon those over whom
lie has charge. No person who exerts
.a bad influence should be. allowed to
teach; indeed,' there is quite as much
opportunity for doing good in tbe pro
fession of teaching as there is in the
ministry. Every Yale man knows how
true this is in regard to Dr. Wright,
of Yale University. A college profes
sor can be a center from which a
strong moral influence radiates to
every community into which one of his
pupils goes."
