Conference. He was appointed to the
charge at Henderson and left Friday
to fill the pulpit there on Sunday."
A considerable improvement has been
made in the walk in front of the libra
ry; in fact it has been made a new
walk; straightened and raised, so that
the water cannot settle in it as berore,
causing mud.
It has been announced that the gym
nasium bahs will be put in repair
during the holidays. There has been
much complaint among the students,
because only about three of the shower
baths will furnish warm water at one
time.
Mr; Gus Palmer delivered a stereop
ticon lecture on Volcanoes, last night,
before the Hawfield High School, Me
bane. Mr. Palmer says he told the
good people of Mebane a whole lot of
things about volcanoes they had never
heard before. , He also reports a great
time admiiing girls, spare ribs,
chicken, etc.
Mr. Holladay will not be here Satur
day to take pictures, but will be on the
Hill, Wednesday, the 14th, for the
last day's work. It will, therefore, be
necessary for all seniors and all groups
who wish to have pictures taken for
the Yackety Yack if they have not
already done so it will be necessary
for them to, have the pictures taken on
next Wednesday.
It is a peculiar coincidence that both
V. M. 1. and W. and L., situated in
Lexington, Va., have closed until after
Christmas. V. M. I. because of pink
eye, W. and L. because of typhoid
fever.
At the University of Alabama, sta
tistics show that more men were hurt
this season under the new football
rules than heretofore.

Mr. John R. Mott was at t!ie Uni
versity of Virginia last week, where he
gave addresses on Russian Student
Life. In his remarks Mr. Mott said
that since his last visit at the Univer
sity he had been in five continents
and many islands, visiting 3,000 col
leges and institutions of learning, and
that nowhere had he been so struck by
the character of the students as in
Russia. Pres. Alderman introduced Mr.
Mott as the "ambassador to us from
the land of honor, character and high
ideals."
Of the fourteen men of the football
varsity at the University of Virginia
who were awarded V's this year, nine
men receive their V's for the first
time. : , ' ' ,. .'..
As a result of a recent fire in one of
the buildings of the University of Ala
bama, the. students have formed a vol
untary fire department.
