Supper at six, mail at seven or eight, Pickwick sand wiched between. The junior class met Friday and de cided to postpone the election of managers of the Junior Prom and commencement marshals until after Christmas. Profs. M. C. S. Noble and N. W. Walker and Dr. Chase left for Win ston Thursday afternoon, to attend the meeting of county superintend ants and principals of high schools of North Carolina. Dr. L. R. Wilson spent Thursday at Greensboro, in attendance upon the meeting of the Farmers' Union of North Carolina, explaining the work of the N. C. Library Commission, and proposing a plan of library extension through a system of traveling libra ries. Dr. Hamilton to Attend Historical Society Dr. J. G. de R. Hamilton will attend the meeting of the American Histori cal Society, which meets in Indianap olis on Dec. 27th to 30th. Prof. Walker to Attend Educational Association . The annual session of the Southern Educational Association will be held in Chattanooga, Tenn., on December 28th and 29th. Prof. N. W. Professor Viles held the close attention of his audience from first to last by his recital of thrilling episodes of Alpine climbing, embel lishing his lecture with a few personal anecdotes of his own experiences while making the perilous ascents. Barnett Sends Greetings The friends of Mr. E. E. Barnett, missionary to China and former Secre tary of the University Y. M. C. A., will be glad to know that he and Mrs. Bar nett have landed safely, after a four weeks' voyage across the ocean. Mr. Barnett writes interestingly of his new experiences, of the peculiar customs of the people and of the outlook of his new field of labor. For several months he will be stationed at Shanghai, studying the language and getting prepared for his work at Hangchow. The nature of his work at Hangchow will be similar to his work at the Uni versity, that is, Secretary of the Hang chow Y. M. C. A. Mr. Barnett sends greetings and best regards to both faculty and student body. Exchange Qippings The libraries at Yale contain some 600,000 volumes. The Aero Uub at the University of Chicago expects to do some flying this spring. r " The Yale faculty consists this year of 185 members. , There have been 57 changes in the past year. -; Seventeen students at the Univer sity of Chicago will canvass Hyde Park for the purpose of securing funds to help furnish the poor with clothing during the winter. Football coaches at Kansas adopted the honor system with their football team. . A Harvard club has been established at Chicago to welcome all Harvard men who find themselves in the city. There are only thirty students from west of the Mississippi in this year's freshman class at Yale. Out of 16 former University of Penn sylvania stars only two speaks favora bly of the new football rules. The new plays are considered to be more dangerous than the old. The faculty of Tulane University is considering abolishing inter-collegiate football. The students, in mass meet ing, voiced their protests against the movement. The dean of women at Northwestern made a talk to the co-eds, condemning "Howling Co-Education. " ! She went on record as being opposed to rooting by the co-eds at football games. The penalty imposed at Yale for reading or studying in chapel is five marks. An effort is being made to en tirely stamp out the practice of study ing during service.
