On the whole this record is not a bad one. but rather, for the first year, a very good one. Four of the members of the team are from Charlotte. They have de cided to practice together during the coming summer in the Charlotte Y M. C. A. This will result in a wel trained team next year. Infirmary Besiege! The Infirmary is undergoing its an nual siege of bad colds and grippe. Probably due to the violent difference between the excessive heat of the dor mitory rooms and the cold outer air in to which students most ero when on their way to meals and classes, an epi demic of grippe fastens yearly its tal ons upon the susceptible constitutions of toiling students and reduces them to the painful necessity of getting on the sick list. For the past week the halls and reception-rooms of the In firmary have been filled to overflowing every night with suffering students Most of them spend but the night. Carolina Man in Faculty of Washington University Dr. William McKim Marriott, for merly of Baltimore, has been appointed instructor in biological chemistry in Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Wilson Marriott, of Washington, for- merly of Baltimore, and is the grand son of the late Rev. Dr. J. W, M. Wil liams, long the pastor of First Baptist Church of this city. After graduating at Marston's Uni versity School he received the degree of bachelor of science at the University of North Carolida and the medical de - gree at Cornell. For two years he acted as assistant in chemistry in the University of North Carolina. For one year he was tutor in chemistry in the College of the City of New York . and for three years assistant in physi ological chemistry in Cornell Medical School. He was lecturer on radioacti vity for the United States Geological Survey at the Louisana Purchase Ex position. Dr. Marriott has published the results of much research in pure and in physiological chemistry. He is a member of Phi Beta Kapps, Alpha Omega Alpha, Kappa Alpha and Phi Alpha Sigma fraternities. Baltimore Sun. ' In a recent news item, Dr. A. La w rance Lowell, president of Harvard University, is reported as being op posed to organized college cheering. He laments that cheering has to a large degree taken the place of high class music among gatherings of col lege men. The degeneration of the popular taste in music is also described by Dr. Lowell, who states that the present condition of music is a sign that educated people are signally defi cient in the art of expressing emotion. M., leave New Bern at 4:10 A. M arrive Winston i:4o a. m.., arrive Goldsboro at 6:20 A. M. Eastbound train No. 16 leaving Goldsboro at 10:15 P. M., will receive connection from the Southern Rail way and A. C. L. from the North and South. Westbound tram 15 will connect at Goldsboro with the Southern Railway Westbound, and with the A. C. L North and Southbound. Effective same date train No. 9 wilj eave Newbern at 5:25 P. M., leaving Kinston at 6:45 P. M.,, and arrive Goldsboro at 7:45 P. M. Under this new schedule passengers may make direct connection at Golds boro with all lines without lay-over.
