A diligent search has been made to find some' cause for jthe marked difference between li e write-up of the Davidson-Carolina game that-appeared in ! pw Charlotte Observer and that -which appeared in the News and Obser ver. It was to be expected that !.uv';i ! ii j.'t ! j:rl. ! ions !rt -.vi-n inl m . ;:!!; v. A , i. iulvc become somewhat strained accor ding to th Virginia Tech. The trouble has come about by reason of the, desire on the part of the v ngmians 10 rme one tnree mem oers or toe A. and jvi. team as professionals. The men in ques tion played during1 the summer in the Tidewater League. V. P. I. contends that this league was run under conditions similar to the Virginia State League and that a -isequcntly the mn who placed i;i it are not amateurs. A. and M. denies this, saying thatsirlce the League was not run under the rotection of the National Com- 'ni;,siqn, players in it are not pT- The Tech paper after discuss-' ii;.'; the matter, , closes with this paragraph: ; , ''So; we ; hope they will act'Jas 1-150, and i for the sake of the game, for the sake of the public. and for the sake of the grand Old j North State and .their college, they will bar these men out. Our reputation , will, suffer if we al low these, men to play, so. .e bone that A. ana M. will mdet us in friendly athletic relations, but if they play these men they will never meet V. P. But the absblute dif ference in the point of .view taken concerning the play, of the Caro lina team, and the prediction of defeat on Thanksgiving i which appeared in the latter paper's; ac count seemed utterly inexplicable. It has just been learned that -the Charlotte correspondent of the News and Observer, is a'Xrrpitv man. To do this they will , have to put forth their best efforts, tor the annuals of the, past three years have been of the very finest qual ity. The board is working dili gently and is collecting a good deal of material for the book, r But the Yackety Yack Board, like some other boards around this institution of learning, ; is altogether human and, cannot of itself furnish all the attractive drawings and brilliant wit that goes into the book. It must have the support of the students. 'The editors are very desirous of re ceiving contributions from the students. Drag boxes have been placed in the hallway of the Alumni Building, where also, the, lower classmen will find boxes in to which they j are requested to put their statistics. It is the j hope of the editors , that these boxes will be rapidly filled. , ; The necessity of the support of the students being given to the annual cannot be too strongly impressed. The Yackety Yack is the one supreme achievement of the college year. It is a record of all that is best in what we do at the University. clay night.
