The Junior's goal was in dange several times, even to the one yard line, but de termined resistance snatched 1913 from defeat. The Sophomores displayed fair team work, at times. Allen and Young were successful with the forward pass. Junior Smith in the backfield and Pitt and Dar den in the line held down their positions well. "Ratty" Ranson again fully proved his right to the title he bears. For the Juni ors, Capt. Carrington made some of his effective line plunges and an extraordinary punt to the side line. Phillips and Higdon de serve mention, while "Tommy" Hughes covered punts and tackled in great style. The close scores of the class games played thus far add much interest to the remaining games of the series. Friday's lineup was as follows: Sohhs Ranson, 1. e.; Pitt. 1. t.; Ferguson, 1. g. ; D a r d e n, c. ; Pritchett, r. g.:Ely, r. t.; Young, r. e.; Allen, q.; Lord, 1. f.; Smith, f.; Sears, r. h. Juniors Morri son, Caldwell 1. e.; Axley, 1. t.; Royster, 1. g ; Higdon, c.; Carter, r. g. j Rankin, Vann, r. t; Hughes, r. e.; Stokes, q.; Smith, 1. f.; Carrington, f.; Phillips, r, h. Manning, referee. Crutchfield, umpire. Mebane, time keeper. : ... ; . . The tailor's sign in a little in land town was an apple, simply an apple. The people were amazed at it. They came in crowds to the tailor, asking him what on earth the meaning of the gn was. The tailor, with a complacent smile, replied: "If it hadn't been for an apple where would the clothing busi ness be today?" Ladies Home Journal. ' ' Murphy was a new recruit in the cavalry. He could not ride at all, and, by ill-luck, was given the most vicious horse in the troop. "Remember, "said the sergeant, "no one . is allowed to dismount without orders." Murpy was no sooner in the saddle than he was thrown to the ground. "Murphy", the sergeant yelled, "You dismounted!" "I did." "Did you have orders?" "I did."
