A classification into divisions A. B. and C, with sub-heads 1 under A. and C, five classes in all, of the colleges and universi ties in the United States was made last fall by an expert from the office of the United States Commissioner of Education. The expert spent two days in Chapel Hill. According to his first classification the University of North Carolina was placed in di vision 1 under A. Since last fall, however, he has continued his investigations further. As a re' suit - several changes have been made. He now places the Uni versity in class A. The classification was based on equipment, number of students. work of all kinds done, number of men in the faculty and the recognized ability of the faculty in short, on the general standing of the colleges.
