Va. The simple wedding cere
mony of the Episcopal church
immediately took place.
After the wedding a reception
was given at the home of the
bride's father. Mr. and Mrs.
Sutton left later in an automo
bile for Raleigh, where they took
the Seaboard for Lynn, Mass
Mr. Sutton is an electrical engi
neer and is at present working
.with the General Electric Co. at
Lynn.

N. C. Scientists Meet
The first session of the eleven
th annual meeting of the North
Carolina Academy of Science , was
held in the physics lecture room
of the Alumni Building Friday
afternoon at 2:30 P. M. the exec
utive committee had a meeting,
and at 3:00 P, M. the presentat
ion of papers was begun,
The evening session was held
at 8:00 P. M. in the lecture room
at Chemistry Hall. The address
of welcome to the Scientists on
behalf of the University of
North Carolina was delivered by
President Francis P, Venable.
Dr. II. 'V. Wilson, President of
the Academy Science, then deliv
ered his presidential address.
It was a most interesting paper
on "Zoology in America Before
the Present Period". Professor
A. II. Patterson, of the Univer
sity, followed this with a Demon
stration of Electric Waves.
After this a number of papers
were read and discussed.

The honorary degree was next
conferred on Dr. C. W. Stiles.
Dean Raper said:

Charles Wardell Stiles: zoologist
in the United States Public
Health and Marine Hospital Serv
ice since 1902; scientific secretary
of the Rockefeller Commission
for the Eradication of Hook
Worm Disease since 1909; author
of numerous important scientific
papers; distinguished by the
vigor of his scientific work and
by the intelligence and efficiency
of his service for the sake o
public health."
In presenting Dr. Lewis, Dean
Raper said:
"Mr. President:
I have the honor to present
the degrees of Doctor of Laws
Richard Henry Lewis: secretary
of the North Carolina Board of
Health 1892-1909; president of
the National Conference of State
and Provincial Boards of Health
of North America in 1906; presi
dent of the American Public
Health Association in 1908; dis
tinguished for a rare charm of
personality, for excellence as a
physician and teacher of medi
cine, and above all for a long and
valuable service in the formation
of public health."
The new building, named Cald
well Hall, in honor of the first
president of the University, was
authorized at the last session of
the legislature Work on the
building was begun shortly after
last commencement. I he build
ing is now practically finished
and jvill be occupied by the Med
ical School at the beginning of
next year. The building com

Messrs. II. Weil of Goldsboro,
V. S. Bryant of Durham, Presi
dent F. P. Venable, and Dean I.
H. Manning of the Medical
Faculty, has spared no pains in
their endeavor to make the build
ing complete in every detail and
adequate to meet the demands of
modern medical education. The
result is that the University of
North Carolina has one of the
most complete medical schools in
the eutire bouth.
