ALL TOGETHER J Thursday evening when the; members ot the benior class met in an informal social way to dis cuss affairs here a long- step was taken towards accomplishing something constructive. For the first time it theii history the class agreed on something and that item was the most important something that had ever corns up before them to push things. They decided rightly that what we need here is not destructive knocking of every team that fails rather encouragement and constructive work to make that team South Atlantic, or that magazine the best magazine, or that what-not the best what-not. They started what has long been needed here, and if we interpret the spirit of the class aright they will carry that thing through. They have started have started to give to the student representatives of the University, in whatever activity engaged and however badly de feated, their hearty support and co-operation. This means that they are not to knock even though some things do not exactly suit them. They are going to make the best of things. Were it not for such men as Bishop Kilgo the relat ions between North Carolina col lages would be much more cord ial and Christian than they at present are. For instance - the students here will be glad when the time comes that we can meet the students of Trinity in all forms of friendly student rivalry. We believe that the Trinity students, too, will be glad when that time comes. What about class football ? Isn't it about time for the teams to go out and get to work ? If we intend to devlope our players here for the Varsity the freshmen at least, should be out going through the daily drill of passing, falling on the ball, tackling, kicking, getting starts and doing all the things the sucessf ul accom plishment of which are necessary for a good team. Those men in college who are interested in such things might do well to consider the prize of one hundred dollars offered by The Lake Mohonk Conference on International Abritration for the best essay on International Arbi tration by an undergraduate man student in any college in the Unit ed States or Canada. The contest closes Marchl5, 1913. We should be glad to give further in forma tion to anyone interested . on a silver plattea: but then it doesn't take a man to lift things off a silver platter. That is the job of an inefficient nonenity, It does require a man though, and it does require men, with discour agement on all sides, with with inefficient weapons, to go into an uphill fight, a fight against odds, "and force your heart, and nerve, and sinew to serve your turn long 0. At University Station. There was formally a club here that devoted itself to the reproduction of ancient dramatic masterpieces much to the benefit of its members and to the enjoy ment of the students. If this club is still existent and intends to present a play this year it would be well for the administra tors of the affairs of the afore said club to call a meetimg of those possessing histrionic ability and then get busy and see if they can't give the students a little better article than the Dramatic Clubs of the past two years have given them. "She Stooped Dut Did Not Conquer" can be avoided only by starting early and work ing hard. While we are calling attention to the activities that ought to be under headway by now we shall slip in just one more - basketball. Last year our basketball season was some distance from being a howling sucess. We started practice along somewhere after the Christmas holidays. We hear the rumor of another case, we asV ebout it, we are astounded at it's truth. How an organization," tried and respected as the Y. M. C. They Jewelers and Optometrists have not reduced tne character or the productions. In fact this years numbers are of a higher standard than last years. In the same proportion, we understand, their expense has gone up. The inconsistency comes when we try to figure out how the Y. M. C. A. can increase it's own expense, decrease the expense -to the student, and turn what seems to us a give-away into a get-away. Our wishes arc with you and our bats are off if you suceed.
