He showed the value of a chemist in a cer tain turpentine plant in Florida which had got into difficulty and was unable to sell its product to the best advantage. The diffi culty was cleared up after some laboratory experiments made here. The subject of Dr. Coker's pa per was "The Water Molds of hapel Hill." The paper gave the result of collections of water molds, which have been made by Dr. Coker and Mr. W. M. Cobb at different seasons in the neighbor. hood of Chapel Hill. Dr. Coker showed that some of the molds were found only in warm weather, others only in cold weather, and still others both in warm and cold Three new species have been discovered, one of which was named for Carolina. Other spe cies have been found, which here tofore had been thought to exist only in certain parts of Europe.
