TUESDAY AMHERST.
"The fastest young infield I
have ever seen", said Connie
Mack, "the greatest oi 'em all,"
after seeing the Tar Heel team
work against Amherst in a dou
ble header in a drizzling rain
Tuesday. The team that defeat
ed Virginia, that split with A. &
M. was unable to get any thing
better than a tie Tuesday. The
first game of seven innings ended
four to four. This was Aycock's
first game of the season on the
mound, The second, Watkins
won 2 to 0, after five innings of
play. H. Bailey had on his bat
ting clothes, out of live trips to
the plate he gathered three hits
which averaged half a circuit
each. Two went to the fence
one for three, the other for two,
He brought home two runs with
his stick, and then two more with
his own legs. Not bad out of a
total of six.
"J. P." Rousseau was back at
short and delivered the goods.
With the exception 'of a fumbled
short throw to second he worked
perfectly. Then he sliced one
down the first base line that did
not go two feet from the fence.
He beat it home Mac Lewis
picked a pretty high foul from
under ''Woody" after he had let
it by. N. C. was in a hole at the
time, too.
In her half of the fourth Caro
lina scored three runs all earn
ed. In the next frame Amherst
dittoed the number but got two
ot them on errors. In the sixth
both sides chalked up one.
In the second game the only
scoring was in the Tar Heel half
of the first when two errors and
two hits netted as many runs, jj
