In the News and Observer, of March 2'Hh, appears a letter by Mrs. Archibald Henderson in re ply to Savoyard, a regular con tributor on the Editorial page. His' article was entitled "A Word With the Ladies." Ex tracts from Mrs. Henderson's re ply follows: "There is no desire on the part of the suffrage party to force suffrage upon an unwill ing state. "It does not seem to me a humorous thing to talk about the negro race in a way that cannot fail to arouse race feeling of the bitterest kind. Kindness and helpfulness are certainly our debt to a race whom our country en slaved and held in bondage. Christainity demands of us not sneers and contempt, but that we hold out a helping hand. "The women of every suffrage state ; have this simple right (Vuradianship of their children.') It took lifty-iive years for the women of Massachusetts to gain this right. The women of Col orado gained it within 55 days after they gained tne ballot. "Savoyard claims that any woman fit to be a wife or mother or daughter would take her poli tics from her father or her hus band ....... As a matter of fact, men do take their politics from their fathers. I do not know a dozen-no, nor half a dozen ex ceptions to this rule. She closes with: "Then I say to Savoyard that womanhood is a greater thing than he dreams of, and that we women who are mothers hope by the aid of the ballot to be better mothers, be cause we shall be wiser and more helpful women." '.;' Mission Study Group Start. The Bible Study CI asses have finished the courses in "men of The Old Testament," "Life of Christ", and "New Studies in the Acts". Twenty-two groups took the courses for six months, Prof. II. V, Chase and Rev, W. I). Moss were sources of inspiration al leadership in the normal groups. loin uousuaii, wiair inan of the work, had a very effi cient organization of individual study groups, normal groups, and an active force of graup secretar ies. The attendance on the last Sunday numbered over 130. The mission study groups were organized last Sunday in three courses, "The Challenge of the Country," "Islam," and "The Chinese Revolution". There are nine groups in these courses. II. S. Willis is ths energetic Chair man of this work. . Three nor mal classes for the leaders are conducted weekly. The Volunteers band has grown from a single member to four definite volunteers. The Kansas City Convention has opened up the question of mis sip ns to a good number of men. Yelling Greatly Improved. A feature of the last few games has been the organization and spirited cheering of the rooters. Under the leadership of Jim I'ritclictt, Frank Graham and Charlie Coggins a transformation has been made. A clever move has been to divide a yell into divisions and each section yell its part. One section yells ray, the next ray, and the last Rah rah. This runs down the bleach ers like the proverbial forest fire. Another classy "yell" goes thus: everybody claps three times fast, then they pound with their feet, then the man's name on the end. B. F. Paty was operated on at the infirmary a few days ago for appendicitis by Dr. Hubert Roys ter of Raleigh and his condition is very much improved. He ex pects to be about in a few days. 1mm in ' 1 j A JOY IN THE HOM in i if I Victor-Victrolas $15.00 to $200. : :: : Victor or Edison Records H. A. GASIUN'S 314 West - Main Street DURHAM, N. C.
