C Coker, of the Botany department. Dr. Coker has done much to beau tify the surrounding's of the Uni versity by transforming- the bar ren waste back of Davie Hall and the Chemistry Building into an Arboretum which is the pride of the college. It is proposed to carry on simi lar work in the Peabody Field, which is now being laid off for purposes of cultivation and ex perimentation. Part of this field will be used for the cultivation of more than 250 North Carolina shrubs, part for the cultivation of foreign shrubs, and part for testing seeds and fertilizers, and making practical experiments with common crops. This work will be particularly valuable to students of Education who are to teach in schools where agriculture and gardening form a part of the curriculum.
