PROFESSOR PERRY One of tile most entertaining- speakers who have come to Chap el Hill with the present student feneration is Professor Bliss C3 Perry. His lectures were, hap pily, not of that abstruse variety which we respect because they sound'iiftelligent but which real ly1 mean nothing- to us His sub jects could not have been more aptly chosen for their appeal to :ollege men. He is the sort who makes the widest appeal because is most widely understood. Df the other sort we do not have nough to get accustomed to, and when they do come, their doc trines are so unfamiliar as to be incomprehensible to the average student; What Professor Perry said will probably be retained longer by those who heard him than most of the lecturers who have spoken in Gerrard Hall this year. We have the greatest respect for the man who can lecture to students in plain terms instead of abstract sentences. CLASS DORMITORIES . The junior class is considering the advisability of making Battle, Vance, and Pettigrew senior dor mitories next year. The Uni versity has agreed to the plan, arid' to facilitate niatters, has: made concessions ; in room rent. The cost of a suite for two occu pants" will be $100 for the entire year. VPhred desiring to room to gether can secure & suite for SI 151 The president of the class has interviewed some sixty or seventy members, all of whom, except two or three, endorsed the plan.. These stated that they j were unable to pay the rent or; disapproved of the idea. The plan, if adopted, may lead to'the separation "of the students Into class dormitories. This, we are inclined to think, might prove advisable. To have the entire membership of a class lodged in the same building would certainly tend toward uni y of sentiment and action, to ward vitalizing- class spirit. In through. There are numerous cases in college now where men, when they were freshmen, associ ated altogether with upper class men, and now that 'the upper classmen are gone, find them selves with few friends in the middle of their college course when they should be profiting most. , The plan which the, juniors have taken up is worth the con sideration of the other classes. A POSSIBILITY All of us are anticipating the summer vacation as a time or considerable cnjojment. We are naturally expecting pleasant ex- TtT i 1 periences. we anticipate pleas ures and let misfortunes take care of themselves.- Yet the latter are as real as the former and come just as frequently. How 'often do we look forward to pleasure and experience pain! How many of us who anticipate happy sum mers will realize them? Ever)' fall men who, in the spring had summer plans made, who could look the highest and seethe farthercst, come back to college with statements as to why they did not realize their schemes. Various reasons are given, ascments, jous, 'lack oi money, and too often sickness preventable sickness, t y p h o i d fever. . , Many of us live in sections where typhoid is not uncommon and where it is not unlikely that we may contract it. Yet we look optimistically, blindly on, saying, Oh, I won't catch it ' and it gets us. ; . . . i -' . Typhoid fever .is a, now. .inex cusable disease.' It" has been proved ' altogether preventable.'- To become immune'eosts nothing. no money and no suffering. The vaccine which wards off this fever is gladly administered here at the infirmary." In fact, every student is urged to present himself for inoculation at the infirmary. During the summer, arfd, the com ing year we may not run into any danger of typhoid, but again we. may, and if we do, it means six weeks in bed, suffering, doctors and their bills medicine, noth ing to eat, and the whole family discomforted.
