Freshman : footballers got
down to serious practice yester
day with Coach George James
directing activities. The large
squad was : divided , into two
groups with Coach James tak
ing charge of the guards and
tackles, while Coach Bob Fetzer,
who helps with the frosh, super
vised the work of the ends and
backs.-
Fundamentals were stressed
by the coaches in yesterday's
drill with the guards receiving
special instruction, pulling out
of the line for interference." This
work will be continued with the
prospect $i ?t scrimmage being
held later in the week. Coach
Fetzer "complained of the lack
of punters on the squad but for
the most part prospects for the
season seem to be better than
average.. ;
The yearling season will open
against the Baby Deacons from
Wake Forest in Kenan Stadium
on October 12. The next game
will be played at nieht in
Greensboro against the N. C.
State frosh on October 25. A
trip to Asheville on November
2 will place the Tar Babies. on
the field with the Clemson fresh
men and November 15 will find
tne Virginia frosh as foes m
Charlottesville. The season wil
be concluded with the always
spectacular game against the
Duke frosh which will be held
here. , v J ..
Prep Stars
On the squad of over 100
odd freshmen perspiring under
the hot sun, are quite a col
school stars. Among those who
have the bright reputations are
George Watson, formerly of
Staunton Military Academy,
where he also was star track
man, leaping more than 23 feet
in the broad jump. Watson, a
fast and shifty half back, is ex
pected to go places, v Jack Kray-
nick, also a back from Staun-
on, is another former prep
star. Charly Lowe, captain and
all state tackle at Woodberry
Forest last year, has all the. ap
pearances of,a man who will de-
iver the goods. Tony Cerhu-
gel, a husky quarterback "from
Steelton, Pa looks to be one
of the better backs among - the
lot. . -:
Near the end of yesterday's
practice, Coach James lined up
several teams. The scrimmages
between the varsity and the
freshmen will probably begin
next week. While it is too early
for the coaches to venture a
prediction as to the calibre of
team which they will put on the
field, they seem to have a cheer
ful and an optimistic outlook;
Major Leagues
The wrestling and boxing con
tests will be run off in tourna
