Chapel Hill's local tennis
Bride. Archie Henderson, set
tled one important question Sat
urday afternoon. By capturing
the State title, Henderson cli-
maxed a year or Driinant im
provement and firmly establish
ed himself as Carolina's number
one man on the coming north
era trip.
Coach Kenfield had been in a
quandary as to the respective
position of; the varsity boys
Ramsay Potts and the royal f am
ily of Edwards, De Gray and
Fuller, were waging a merry
threesome for first position
Henderson idled up, disregarded
the three of them and settled the
perplexity. More strength to
him! His conscientious attitude
and sincerity of play merits the
heights he has so recently at
tained. - 7 .. .
Coach, has not yet decided
whether. to, take seven or eight
varsity players on the colorful
northern7 tbur.1 A hectic round
robin has been in progress ; for
some time so as to establish po
sitions on the team.

VIRGINIA HERE FRIDAY
The situation only became
more complicated when Frank
Farrell, j eighth man on the
squad, proceeded to topple De
Gray and carry Ramsay Potts to
the limit. Coach will be doing
no more ithan right by taking all
eight men. They all deserve the
trip and it would be rash to leave
one behind. Ask Foreman, Rob
inson or! Farrell.
The team takes to the high
way this Friday and opens with
Newark University on Saturday,
May 2. Let not that title haunt
you as it is only a brand new
.appellation for Dana College.
Newark Is Fast ,-: ,
Tenn addicts will be thrilled
to hear tii playing third singles
for ewarkXJ. , will probably be
none other, than Seymour Fast,
the dare-devil from Carolina's
last year frosh squad. He is
aching for personal revenge so
i watch out Ramsay Potts !
, Resting on Sunday (travelling
r only about 300 (miles) the squad
continues . against Amherst on
Monday and then plays in rapid-
fire order Yale, Army, N. Y. U.,
Princeton and Navy. The Tar
Heels will totter back on May 10
after a week of competition that
would test any team in the na
tion.
t Interest will !be focused on the
Princeton match. The Tigers
have ruined the past two sea
sons with 9-0 and 7-2 defeats.
On Saturday they squelched N.
Y. U. 9-0.
Davidson, April 27 The Uni
versity of North Carolina base
ball team added another mark to
the win column here today when
they conquered the Davidson
Wildcats 3-2.
Only four hits were gained
from the efforts of Irby Wright,
while the Tar Heels got to Near
wood for eight safeties. The
Wildcats scored one in the first
and another in the fifth to end
their scoring for the day.
Evens Score
Going into the eighth inning,
Carolina wTas on the short end
of a two to one score. With two
out, McCarn was walked and ad
vanced to third on Captain Sha
piro's hit. With LeGrande bat
ting for Groome, McCarn stole
home to tie up the ball game.
Shapiro was out on LeGrande's
grounder. In the ninth inning:
Austin crossed the plate with
the winding tally. V
The Tar Heels will meet the
Virginia Cavaliers here on Fri
day, and then travel to Greens
boro on Saturday to meet the
Cavaliers in the second game of
their series.

'Sugar Blues" Men Taste Bitter
Defeat as Yankee Boys "Tear
It Down" 9-8 on Diamond
By E. L. Peterson
The University soft ball fans
saw their first Sunday game
here last weekend as Aycock
dormitory defeated an 11-man
team composed of Clyde McCoy
and his orchestra by a score of
9-8. f "
The orchestra boys carry then-
balls, bats, and a glove for each
man around with them and
challenge teams at different
schools. This time the strong
Aycock outfit, using 15 different
players during the game, was too
strong for the orchestra com
bination.
Not Bad
Blumburg, pitcher for the vis
iting team, struck out eight of
the local nlayers. After he had
given them four runs in the first
inning, he held them scoreless
for the next four innings.'
"Red' Levine proved to be the
outstanding man in the outfield
for the local team as he robbed
several of the visitors of their
hits.

dogs. ,,: okkc rrv.vij- n
: Thus far the team has lost its;
first four games, the last against
the Duke Blue Imps Saturday.
The final score of the game was
9-5.
The records show, however,
that the Tar Babies actually out
hit their opponents, securing 11
hits to the opposition's ten. In
the field, though, Carolina show
ed glaring deficiency by commit
ting nine errors.
At the bat the Tar Babies
were more proficient than they
had been for the whole season.
Nethercutt led the hitting with
three hits, followed by Stoopack
and Winborne with two hits a-
piece.
This week's practices will be
deyoted mainly to fielding and
pitching. To date these two fac
tors have been woefully, missing
from the Tar Babies repertoire.

With the state championships
an event of the past, the varsity
netters gather their racquets
this afternoon and troop over to
Duke University for their ninth
dual meet of the season.
Undefeated and uhthreatened,
the varsity enters this match a
heavy favorite over the the Blue
Devils. Comparative scores sub
stantiate this in relation to
Amherst. Carolina scored a
9-0 win over the Massachusetts
team, whereas Duke was humb
led by an 8-1 count.
Henderson on Top
Archie Henderson, newly
crowned state champion, will
make his debut this afternoon as
number one man for the Tax
Heels. He will be followed by
Eddy De Gray, state runner-up.
Ramsay Potts, Eddy . Fuller,
Frank Shore and Johnny Fore
man in that order.
The Duke squad will probably
be led by Ashby. This Duke
player was seeded third in the
state tourney, but was eliminat
ed in an early round by Johnny
Foreman.
Dave Caton, second for the
Blue Devils, was also upset by a
Tar Heel, bowing to Co-captain
Frank Shore.
Record
Of the eight matches to date,
six whitewash victories have
already been transferred to the
victory bag. Today's match with
Duke marks the final appearance
of the varsity in this state for
some time. After competing on
Wednesday in the Duke mass
meet, the netters will rest unti)
Friday when they leave on their
