For Staff Elections
In discussing the question of
staff elections, Cole continued,
"the Student party feels that
staff election of publications edi
tors makes for most efficient and
intelligent management and for
that reason will back Mac Smith
for editor of the Daily Tar
Heel, the Bill Hudson-Nick
Read combination as co-editors
of the Carolina Magazine, Hay
don Clement for editor of the
Buccaneer, and Dave Thorpe for
editor of the Yackety Yack.
As representatives of the Stu
dent party further sound out
campus opinion, other candi
dates will be announced.
The Student party was found
ed last spring by Carl Fistel,
Charles Robinson and Bill Cole.
According to the party leaders,
the purpose of the organization
was to do away with the one-
party system that had previous

All-Campus Party
It seeks genuine all-campus
representation," continued
Chairman Cole yesterday. "It
believes in getting the man most
able to fill the position, and is
absolutely opposed to pulling
from a hat the names of candi
dates to govern this student body
of 3000, and to any allotment
system.
"Last spring the Student
party confined itself to the rising
sophomore class and successfully
campaigned for Bud Hudson,
now president of that class. In
the fall, the Student party rep
resentatives lost by narrow mar
gins. Indeed, a change of three
votes would have necessitated a
run-off election."
Cole further stated yesterday
that "the original policy of the
party had been for the nomina
tions of candidates in meetings
open to all but that this had
proved impracticable due to the
impossibility of preventing the
