PICK TODAY J 1 " & ',,-.4 Speed Violators Are to Receive Little Sympathy As a result of the fatal . accident Sunday evening, speed limit violators near Chapel Hill will receive little sympathy if apprehended, State High way Patrolman. Robert R. Thomas said yesterday. "There was no evidence of drunken driving or mechanical trouble in Sun day night's wreck," Thomas said. "The sole cause, apparently, was speeding." In an effort to end the violation of state speed limits the consideration usually extended student lawbreakers will be dropped, Thomas said. He pointed out that on the hilly roads approaching Chapel Hill even the al lowed speeds can be dangerous. The limit on Pittsboro road and Highway 54 toward Greensboro and toward Raleigh is 50 m.p.h. The limit on the Durham road is 40 m.p.h. University Students Leading Conference ! University students and faculty members are taking a leading part in the Southern Council on International Relations conference being held in Columbia, South Carolina. This annual conference, which be gan Sunday and ends today, is attend ed by leading commercial, political, and educational representations in the South from Washington to New Or leans. The conference is discussing impor tant contemporary international pro blems. It has declared the promotion of foreign trade as a practical ob jective of its program of encouraging international understanding. Em phasis has been placed on relations between Southerners and Russia, La tin America, and the Far East. Di Senate to Discuss Curbs on Fraternities This weeks meeting of the Dialectic Senate will feature a bill proposing "Curbs on Fraternities". Several fra ternity leaders have been invited to lead the opposition. The number of students in school now shows a slight drop from 5927 men and 1082 women, who attended during Winter term, to 5847 men and 994 women in school during this quarter.
