With two warm up victories I

freshmen baseball team travels
Monday to Durham to meet the
Duke freshmen at 3 o'clock in the

The baby Tar Heels will meet
Duke, Wake Forest, and N. C.
State each five times this year

game freshmen slate.
About twenty-five freshmen
have been practicing 'since the
start of the quarter on Navy field
to earn berths on the frosh-nine.
The team has been fielding fairlv
well in its early games, but it
hasn't had much chance against
wild high school pitching to show
any real hitting ability. Second
baseman Don Gilleland, LQft
Fielder Wayne Harpold, and Rieht
Vielder Wayne White seem to be
the most promising batters. GiPe

Albans, Scott
MorrowShine
in Dual Meet
By Bill Peacock
Three meet records, including
a University record by Bill Albans
in the broad jump, high-lighted
the annual Carolina-Princeton
dual track meet which the Tar
Heels swept easily, 77 1-3 to 53 2-3.
Albans ' took time off from
spring football practice to turn
in a leap of 24 feet, 9 7-8 inches
to break the old record of 23 feet,
7 3-4 inches set by Hubbard and
Higby in 1935. He also won the
discus with a toss of 130 feet, 2 in.
Bob Kirk, Carolina's star jave
lin tosser, and Princeton's mile
relay team also set meet records.
Kirk threw the spear 197 feet,
2 1-2 inches to better his own
mark of 195 feet, 8 1-2 inches,
set last year.
The Tiger relay team of Jim
Sparkman, Jerry Bentley, Bob
Eby, and Sam Howell ran the
distance in 3:26 to break the old
record of 3:36.9 set by Princeton
last year. Carolina, which had
been running nip-and-tuck with
Princeton all the way, was dis
qualified when anchor man Gene
Brigham ran out of the baton
passing zone while making an ex
change with Clarence McLain.
The Tar Heels showed strength
down the line as they took nine
firsts and a tie for first to put
the meet away early in the after
noon. Only in the middle dis
tances did Carolina prove unable
to keep pace with Princeton.
The highly anticipated personal
dual in the two mile between Sam
Magill of Carolina and Tiger Dick
Snedeker turned out to be a walk
away as the Tar, Heel ace won
by fifty yards doing the distance
in the good time of 9:44.5. Snede
ker, who defeated Magill earlier
in the season, might have been,
tired by the mile which he won in
4:27.3 to get the Tigers off to a
good start in the running events.
The bespectacled Morrow won
both the low and high hurdles
without being threatened. Mor
row lead Tar Heels Garrett Fitz
gibbons and Jim Woolcott across
the finish line in the low hurdles
in the time of 25.7 seconds. He
topped the highs in 15.4.

Lacrosse Team Loses;
Swan Stars For Hens
Don Swan. That name wilL
long be remembered to Carolina's
lacrosse team when yesterday's
gf.me with Delaware and the
pangs of a 14-3 defeat have been
forgotten.
It was Swan, the artful dod
ger, the shrewd and crafty ma
rt pulator of the lacrosse stick,
that threw the Tar Heels com
pletely off the beam. Swan scored
ir.L the first three periods making
2 tallies in the frame, 3 in the
second, and 1 in the third. It
was Sawn who made three -valuable
assists along with many ex
cellent plays overwhelming the
Blue Shirts from the first min
ute to the last.
Swan has . probably set a new
scoring record for points in la
crosse r playing for a week. In
four games he has tallied 21
points averaging 4 per game. The
Carolina team has not and prob
ably will not play with another
player of the calibre of Swan.
The Blue Shirts started off yes
terday's game in the same man
ner that they did against Lehigh.
They played hard, used smart
tactics and made good shots. Del
ayare didn't score until after
five minutes in the first quarter.

But after that score, the Elue
Hens really went to work.
The Tar Heels first score came
in the latter part of the first peri

team for a week, made the first
point unassisted by flipping the
ball in from the side. Ray
Swigart, injured in the Lehigh
game, came back and played a
great game, also scoring the sec

with amazing stamina and ability.
Sully Darden tossed the ball into
