The figure comprised of pledges

For Better,
For Worse?
By Tink Gobbel
Should the Duke game be men
tioned here? " Should the Duke
game be mentioned, period?
What a weekend to remember.
Every inmate on the hall of this
dorm had a date. That was Duke
weekend, 1950.
Shortly afterwards, still 1950,
the "Greetings" from Washington
began to roll in. Misery! Before
Christmas holidays, The Daily Tar
Heel reported the loss of approx
imately one hundred boys who
were drafted into the armed ser
vices. Agony! Now they tell us
that the total .enrollment has
dropped to 6,000. And it's only
January. Nausea!
For the beneift and encourage
ment of the girls living in Mc
Iver, Alderman, Smith, Carr, and
Kenan, the inhabitants that re
side in this particular abode
(Webster says an abode is a na
tural dwelling for plants or aniT
male and, believe me, it's getting
more natural every day) would
like to pass on a few suggestions
to prevent the aforesaid misery,
agony, and nausea.
We've really combined all ef
forts. The established organiza
tions (those with charters) include
along with the pre-was Bridge
Club, sewing circle, and Associa
tion for Guzzling Gangrels (initi
ation only upon the inclination of
turning a pale shade of green),
the remarkably effective Confed
eration of Card Cheats, the High
Phalootin' Pickleo-tootin' Crap
shootin' Cuties, and the Monopoly
Mongers. For those who haven't
as yet made the upper brackets,
there is the consolation that any
time is teatime and they can for
get it all. ,
These bevies were organized out
of a dire necessity for the for
getting of such trjfles as dates.
(Here I again consulted Noah, who
says a date is the fruit of a palm.
constituting a staple food of
Northern Africa and Western
Asia and also imported wait!
Here it is that statement affixed
to a writing, coin, etc., which
specifies the time, and often the
place, of making. Also the time
of lasting of anything; duration
And speaking of duration, we'll
Saturday Dance Planned By VC z

forget the whole business until
then.) '"' And speaking of Noah
again, if you don't believe me,
look it up! '
As I was saying before, I caught
my opponent rolling with loaded
dice, menare NOT here to stay,
regardless of statements made by
authorities.
Can you picture a female hold
ing the office of president of the
student body, or captain of the
football team, or wrestling champ
of the University of North Caro
lina? Strictly off the record, I've al
ways had the secret desire to be
president of a fraternity and from
where I sit, chances are looking
up. Joy! And at last girls are
going to have the opportunity not
only to go into men's dorm but
to live in them, legally! Bliss!
Yes, everyday boys are leaving
the campus of Carolina to head
for the Navy and San Diego, with
all its crime and vice; for the
shores of Key West with all its
Florida sunshine, and for Fort
Bragg, with all its Men. That's
capital M, capital E, captail N,
MEN!
Wonder what chances are on a
commission in the WACS? Ec-stacy!
for dancing and refreshments for
alt old and new "members and
their dates. A door prize will
also be awarded.
Last week guests of the Vet's
Club were membres of the local
AROTC and NROTC who are
now eligible for club member
ship. They may pick up their
cards at the door when the club
opens.
New manager of the club, John
Allen Cates, is working on plans
for expanded social activity for
the club this year. ' The club
opened last wees with a party
for members and guests.
