The average .person has no
business "being a student at the
University. -
.A great many of the students
vh are now here io not be
long here or in ay University
community. Manyt. if not most,
ol the difficulties, and problems
which' the University now faces
are cttie to its sizev This bloafed
size is an outgrowth of the fal
lacy of equal educaton for all
citizens.
This notion is a. corruption
and abuse of the principle of
equality of opportunity. Every
year students, -are forced to
leave the University, A large
percentage of r- these were un
suitable to begin with. Their
presence may be ascribed to
mcieen&ry motives instead of t
a- desire for knowledge.
The great pressure being ap
plied by the Commerce School
beg pardon, 4he School of Bus
iness Administration for more
and more commercialized edu
cation is a direct outgrowth of
this. Commerce, students do not,
in general and there are notable
exceptions, belong at the Uni
versity. When it is asked of them, that
they learn something to which
no dollars and cents value is at
tached, they rebel. The have not
come to the University to get
an- education? they have come
for technical, commereializedT
mechanistic, vocational train
ing and the University is not
the place to receive such train
ing.
