Mr. Schaff er"s work at the house has to do with the Devel opment Council proposed by President Gordon Gray in his in augural address. His idea was to organize a council which would work towards a continuous de velopment program for the whole State, working through the Great er University. Gray of Winston-Sa lem is serving as chairman of the Council during the first year. Mr. Gray is a University graduate of the class of 1908. Mr. Schaffer, who .has just moved into the West House, is also a graduate of the University -B.S. in Commerce in 1935. An All-Southern Conference man of 1935, he was a star halfback dur ing his undergraduate days. Hav ing come to the University from the staff of Burlington Mills Cor poration, he is director of the General Alumni Association and is president of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Alumni Association. He and his family have made their home in Chapel Hill. With Mr. Schaffer in his office in West's former living room are Miss Millicent McKendry, an alumna of the University, and Mrs. Louise Hayes. Both agree that it's quite cooler and nicer there than in the library of. third floor South Building where they moved from. It seems that Mr. Tanner, who erected the house in the middle thirties for his sons and other worthy students, had quite a sys tem in mind. There are only two large rooms In the house a liv ing room and a bed room with accommodations for six boys. On either side of a long hall joining these two rooms are five small study rooms, a tile bathroom, and a kitchenette. In each compact study room was space for a desk, books, typewriter, and a ward robe for each boy's clothes.
