Later the Alpha Cams entertained prospective pledges wilh a history of tr.e UNC basketball team. ' - " - ! After being welcomed by the siiters, as we see here, the new coeds were taken down stairs for a look at Pi Phi history and entertained with the sorority's By MARY ALYS VOORHEES Just back from a Panhellenic journay .... a walk down Soror ity Lane .... skits, laughing happy faces and chit chat .... First siop Tri Delt House or should we say the "Old Delta Plantation". . . . southern belles and pickaninnies .... and sweet magnolia blossoms .... Farther south we went on our trip to the KD Hades . torches blazing along the front walk .... red devils scampering about Hades .... all KDs dressed in red .... rushees drinking Devil's Brew while watching a sinister $ skit and participating in "Ved hot" conversation .... Things cooled off a bit as we dropped in on the Chi O ice cream party .... balloons floated about the ceiling .... Teddy Bears sitting about the ice cream parlor .... rushees being served at the ice cream ' bar" while the pert parakeet entertained with chirps .... Next door the Alpha Gams were engrossed in a lively chatting session with rushees .... and soon it was refreshment time .... yellow gladioli decorating the table .... followed by a skit on Carolina's basketball team . . . ' A, vv 1 ' L Partying ADPi Style Rushees visiting the ADPi House Thursday and Friday nights were taken on a journey beneath the sea to the ADPi kingdom where mermaids, starfish, and seahorses entertained them. I' 1 i VI Around the corner and up the street the Pi Phi Arrow pointed the way for a trip through Pi Phi history .... Miss Lucky Strike .... Miss Fifth Avenue .... The Pi Phi debutante .... and back to the present .... Up the street we got caught in the whirlpool and carried to the bottom of the ADPi sea .... mermaids singing amidst the fisUnets, seahorses, starfish and rushees .... But perhaps the cutest sight of the evening was seen as we told the ADPi's goodbye and walked out the door. There , on the porch, shut out in the cold were two rushees of the canine species. . Wonder which sorority, they'll pledge? i -'Sit 1 '',-.. w..- t 1 Macemosee Coege Board Confesf Opens Mademoiselle magazine is now ac cepting applications from under graduate women for membership in its 1957-58 College Board. The magazine's College Board Contest offers a chance for any undergraduate woman lo win one of 20 guest editorships a month on the staff of Mademoiselle. Those who are accepted do two assignments during the college year; these assignments may con sist of features about campus life; art work and fashion as well as feature; fiction or promotion ideas for possible use in the 'magazine. The coed will have an opportunity to develop her critical and creative talents ;to discover her abilities and job interests; to win cash prizes and possibly publication for out standing work submitted during the contest. The top 20 guest editors will be brought to New York next June to help write, edit and illustrate the August college issue. They will be paid a regular salary for their month's work, plus round-trip trans portation to New York City. Each guest editor will interview a celebrity in her chosen field, visa; newspaper offices, fashion workrooms, stores and advertising agencies, besides working daily I with the executive editor to whom ! she is assigned. In addition, the 20 guest editors get help in finding positions in their special fields and each year sev eral join Mademoiselle's own staff. 1 A Jaunt To KD Hades People are always talking about going to Hades, but this week rushees actually got the chance when the KDs dressed in red and converged thir hous into a f iary furnace. Hera we ee a seen from their sinister skit while rushees partake in some "ret hot" conversation. The deadline for applying for Col lege Board membership is Nov. 30. Chi O lec Cream Party The Chi Os presented this typical rvjih scene duiing the past week when rushees dropped in for their ice cream party. Later the nw coeds were escorted to the Chi O ice cream parlor whre they were served at the bar amidst balloons, Teddy bears and other as sorted decorations. Full The Old (Tri) Delta Plantation Rushees found the Tri Delt House converted into the Old Delta Plantation the other night when they arrived. Here some rushees are welcomed by a "darkie" butler, who joined with the big, fat mammy and pickaninnies to present a picture of the South of yesteryear. Music Dept. Plans Seven Fall Programs 1 Rovrn musical programs will be presented this tall in the Tuesday Evening Concert Series, sponsored each semester by the UNC Music Department. The conceits will bo given in Hill Music Hall at 8 p.m. There is no admission charge. Lionel Nowak, American compos er and pianist, is the first featured artist. His appearance marks the beginning of the fall series of con certs on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Nowak, composer of several ballets, orches tral works, chamber music, songs and piano pieces, will play sev eral of his own compositions at the recital in addition to other works. On Oct. 22 Strauss' "Die Heder maus," a new production by the Grass Roots Opera Company, will be presented. A. J. Fletcher is organizer of the production and Frederic Popper, director. Another pianist. Wiilliam S. New- n.:m ic sl.itrd to appear Nov. 5. A concert of chamber music di rected bv Edar Alden is planned for Nov. 19. Both Newman and Al 'den are on the UNC music faculty and have appeared in concerts in 1 North Carolina and many parts of the nation. ! On Dec. 10 the University Sym- ; phony Orchestra with Karl Slocum ! as director will present a concert j in the Tuesday Evening Series. The I annual Christmas concert by the Chapel Hill Choral Club and tne University Glee Club under the di rection of Joel Carter will be giv en Dec. 17. Slocum and Carter are on the UNC faculty in the music department. The last program on the calendar for the first half of the year will be Ilonegger's ' Le Hoi David" presented by the University Chorus and directed by Wilton Mason. Now!
