The State Student Legislature,
which viU convene in Raleigh,
Nov. 19. is the most famous stu
dent legislature in the nation, ac
cording to UNC lcg'olaive offi
cials, in that it has b"en function
ing over such a lor g

to meet and debate and draft bills
of student and national interest.
Last year UNC won the trophy
for the best bills presented in the
legislature.
The legislature will probably be
televised by several North Caro
lina television stations. NBC's
Monitor as well as reporters from
Life and Look magazines are ex
pected to be on hand to cover the
meeting.

The spotlight is on G. C. Pridgen,
both literally and figuratively, for
he is the chairman of the Graham
Memorial "Sound and Fury" com
mittee.
"Sound and Fury," as any old
student will tell you, is the UNC
musical and its presentation is one
of the high points of the Carolina
year.
Last year "Sound and Fury"
presented "Thieves Holiday," a
rollicking musical built around the
theft of the fabulous Pizpur diamond
during Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
The audience met such personalities
as Marina, an exotic diamond thief;
Joey Puccini, a witty proprietor of
the Green Door bar; and three gay
college students.
The script this year, according to
Pridgen, was written by a Carolina
student and a professor and the
production has been planned for the
spring. This will allow more time
for work on casting and sets and
chorus than if "Sound and Fury"
attempted also to have a musical
in- the fall.
Pridgen is working on forming a
cemmitte for the production, and
there are still vacancies.
This is an excellent opportunity
for all you amateur Sarah Bern
harts and Cecil B. Demilles," he
said, "for "Sound and Fury" is an
organization of students who love
the theater and want to write,
produce, direct, star in and do
other work themselves on a musical.
"As anyone will tell you who saw
the musical last year, you don't
have to have a wonderful voice or
be the most wonderful actor or
actress to be in our production. You
can always have fun being one of
the cast of thousands in the third
act."
