FOX Attends Computer Conference Dr. Heinz Schecher, research associate at the Computer In stitute of the Munich Institute of Technology and Dr. Philippe Dreyfus of Paris, designer of the Bull Gamma-60 "Concur rent" Computer, will join five other international authorities on '"electronic brains" who will serve as faculty here in "Courses in Frontier Research on Digital Computers." The courses started Monday and will continue till Friday, ugust 28. Some 130 persons from all over the United States are en rolled in the courses offered at Chapel Hill. Besides the for eign visitors, other faculty members will include outstand ing 'electronic computer spec ialists in America." The visitors will be able to make use of the Univac 1105 Data Automation System, just installed in the University, for demonstration purposes. Dr. Schfcher was born in Bavaria in 1922. Four years ago, after submitting a thesis on the "Simplication of Pro grams for Electronic Comput ers," he was awarded his Ph.D. degree from the Munich Insti tute of Technology, "magna cum laude." Since 1955 he has been a re search associate of Professor Sauer, head of the Computer Institute at the Munich Insti tute. Dr. Dreyfus, born in Paris in 1925, was graduated in 1950 from the "Higher School of Physics and Chemistry in Par is" arid then spent one year at Harvard University studying in the Computation Laboratory there. Returning to France in 1951, he joined the Bull Machines Company as a research engi neer in the Electronic Labora tory. After working on com ponents for the GAMMA 3 punched-card computer, he was engaged in managing the Scien tific Data Processing Center of Bull. He is now in charge of the Sales Division for large scale data processing equip ment, but has remained in close contact with research and development of the company as a systems adviser. DR.
