Carolina's Tar Heels this week looked to another Atlantic Coast Coherence game, this one with Maryland at College Park tomorrow. The win was by HMi over the pro'ini and favored South Carolina Gamecocks and it was of the Smashing variety in which the Tar Heels achieve! new high levels of excellence on both off ease and de fense. The new halfbacks, who are sure to figure big in game plans for Maryland are Skip Clement, con verted from quarterback, and Don Klochak. former fullback, both of whom were impressive in thcTr ne roles against South Carolina. Clement Scores Clement ran three times for a 4.7 average without a loss. He caught three passes for 83 yards one of them a remarkable reception and ran for a touchdown. Klochak ran ix times for a 33 average and showed he can play the position. Loft halfback Wade Smith, who had to sit out the South Carolina gesne with a rib injury, is expected to be ready to go agaiost the Terps. On the other hand, riht halfback Gib Carson, who starred against N. C. State and was the As.ociated Press ACC "sophomore of the week." will be lost not only for the Maryland game but for some time to come. Gib has a broken hand. ?n injury sustained agaiost the Gamecocks. Hickey Pleased Carson's loss will be felt, but Coach Jim Hickey is pleased with his backfield situation. Today's game marks the begin ning of the booters drive to cap ture the Atlantic Coast Conference championship since the Cavaliers will be the first league team that the Tar Heels have met. Won First Four In its first four games Carolina has come out on top each time. winning from Fort Bragg, David son, Lynchburg, and Washington & Lee. Since the field at Virginia is about 20 yards wider than Fetzer Field, the Tar Heels may have a bit of trouble adapting to this change. If the wings can compen sate for the extra distance, how ever the team should be able to bring home a win. Carolina and Virginia have met one common opponent, Lynchburg. Whereas the Tar Heels were able to beat the Hornets 4-3, the Cava liers could not do quite as well and lost their game 4-2. Coach Marvin .Allen will start the same team that winning for him. This places John Ghanin, Joe Perkins, Mike Thompson, Charlie Whitfield, and Tom Sprinkle on the forward line with Bill Stem and Hugh Goodman at halfback. There is a possibility that a leg injury may keep Goodman on the sidelines. In this event his spot will be taken by Tom White or John Kenrick. They are Edwards -Holds Review For Wake Forest Game RALEIGH, Oct. 15 UP North Carolina State went through a thor ough, two-hour review session Thursday as heavy work ended for Saturday night's game with WaKe Forest. Head Coach Earle Edwards sent the Wolfpack through a multitude of assignments, both offensive and de fensive. The team rehearsed prac tically every phase of the game. The Wolfpck worked extensively on pass defense in an effort to be pre pared to throttle the Deacons' aer lai game, considerable time was spent on State's own offense, includ ing running, passing, punting and kickoffs.
