Page 4 - UNC NEWS Thursday, June 9, 1960 At The Beaches : V (Editor's Note: The following article is reprinted with per mission from last year's U.N.C. News. The editor felt that the information contained herein would be difficult to gather, as the writer gained the information through four years of research. As last summer's editor said, "He is truly a son of the beach.") So it's hot. Kessing Pool is crowded. You would like to play , Marine and hit a beachhead only you can't decide which one. Don't sweat it, brother, read on. ! - WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH Wrightsville's a drag, but a pleasant one for those individuals seeking a respite from the noisy college routine. Especially recommended to families and young lovers. You won't find many college people banging around at Wrights ville this time of year. That type of thing is reserved for the Azalea Festival in the spring. "The Spot" is about the only retreat for beer drinkers at Wrightsville, but no dancing is allowed due to a recent city ordi nance. ; - OCEAN DRIVE BEACH Ocean Drive, on the ether hand, is swinging compared to Wrigtsville. It is a genial resort and a swell place to make ac quaintances. There are plenty of house parties and dancing is a boon. The beach is pretty nice for swimming and not too crowded. There's plenty of room to motivate with neighboring beaches such as Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Crescent and Windy Hill. '. The spots to hit at 0. D. are the Pad, both afternoon and night; the Bowery, complete with combo on the weekend and a patio , overlooking the ocean; and the respective pavilions, offering beer ' until midnight. , ATLANTIC BEACH 1 Atlantic Beach at Morehead is a perfect blend of the slumber ing atmosphere of Wrightsville and the rowdy environment of O. D. It is a haven for middle class families that have broken their piggy banks for a two-week binge and it also subscribes to lively night life for sun-stroked bachelors and college thrill-seekers. Atlantic is a favorite of the college crowd and also features Marine life not the kind that is found under sea shells and paratroopers from Ft. Bragg and Cherry Point to enhance the male ratio. So, guys, bring your own date. , CAROLINA BEACH Carolina also has its share of service men and, as a result, has not been smiled upon by College Joes. Families generally don't patronize this beach and from personal experiences, ob viously warn their children female types of the venemous lure of male inhabitants. custom-designed jewelry is rare ... but most certainly is available in this area, charles hopkins of chapel hill is one of the few craftsmen in the country who practices the art of handwrought, custom jewelry, gifts in good taste cost no more, (over Sutton's) Class Shorthand II Typewriting Typewriting Attending Summer School?
