Conner, of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, exposes the false arguments of classic and modern communism: Air Conditioning Gift To Cool UNC Institute Of Government . The Knapp Foundation, Inc., of New York City, has given JaO.OOO to UNC to be used in air-conditioning the Joseph Palmer Knapp Building here which houses the Institute of Government. C. E. Stouch of New York, presi dent of the Knapp Foundation and W. D. Carmichael Jr., vice presi dent of the University jointly an nounced the gift. The Knapp Foundation gave $300,000 in 1952 Jo match an equal amount from the state of North Carolina to build the structure named for Joseph P. Knapp, for mer business executive and pub lisher of Colliers Weekly, The American Magazine, the Woman's Home Companion and other mag azines. ' Mr. Knapp died in 1031, and the gift in memory or her husband was made by the widow, Mrs. Margaret Ruth Knapp. Both Mr. and Mrs. Knapp donated generous- . ly to educational and cultural pro jects In North Carolina, including programs in .Currituck County where they maintained a home, the Institute of Fisheries Re search at Morehead City, and the University at Chapel Hill. Sirs. Knapp gave furnishings And panelling '. to establish the Knapp Room in the Ackland Art Center at Chapel Hill; the room includes the collection of antique furniture, objects d'art, rugs, draperies and other furnishings from the New York River House apartments of Mrs. Knapp. The panelling is 200 years old. Mrs. Knapp died in 1958. The Knapp Building here was completed in 1957. The Institute of Government of which Professor Albert Coates is director is an agency of the University which carries on instructional training and research projects in local government, as well as in other facets of state government. The Institute of Government un dertakes to "bridge the gap" be tween the way government is taught in the classrooms of law schools and in political science and in the way it is actually practiced in city halls, in county court houses and in state government bureaus and offices. Those who attend Institute work shops, conferences, institutes and courses include judges, county commissioners, registrars of deeds, clerks of court, highway patrol men, planning officials, sheriffs, police and other officers of city, county and state government.
