Holcomb has been appointed associate dean of the Graduate School for research administration, it was announced Monday by Alexander Heard, dean of the Graduate School. Dr. Holcomb succeeds Dr. Wil liam F. Little, who has held the position for the past two and one half years. Dr. Little, an asso ciate professor of chemistry, will return to full time teaching and research in the Chemistry De partment. Dr. Holcomb, an assistant pro fessor in the Department of Ana tomy, will have responsibility for grant and contract proposals and other items pertaining to research administration. A member of the UNC faculty since 1957, Dr. Holcomb complet ed educational training at the University of Wisconsin, where he received a Ph.D. degree in an thropology. In addition to his teaching dut ies in the Department of Ana tomy, Dr. Holcomb also teaches in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. By MARTY KRUMING The Town Touts moved into second place last Tuesday after noon as they turned back Phi Delta Chi 84 on the strength of p. W. Swing's first homerun of the campaign. In other action Kappa Psi withdrew from league play with a forfeit loss to Stacy. Continuing to storm the intra mural softball trail, the league leading Peacocks rode the two hit pitching of right hander Don nie Walsh to a 3-1 victory over the Town Touts last Thursday afternoon. Eddie Burke delivered what proved to be the game win ning hit in the second inning when he smashed a two-run homer. Monday afternoon the Pea cocks scored early in the game and went on to roll over Phi Delta Chi 14-2 with a circuit clout from Billy Lohr. Across the field ATO used ten runs in the 4th and seven in the 6th to overpower a strong Stacy nine 23-11. Golf Play Hectic Tournament play was furious out on Finley Golf Course last week as players rushed to meet final deadlines in each bracket. In the lower bracket of the championship flight George Pul ver, who drew an opening round bye and then went on to defeat Joe Alexander 5-4, will face Ed Sockwell in the semi-finals. Sock well also drew an initial bye be fore pinning a 1 up win on George Murphy. MacDonald and Oldenburg both roared through their first match es with scores of 5-4 and 2-1 re spectively. In the second flight Simon Terrel turned back Tommy Gra ham 3-2 before knocking Dave Dobson out of contention 3-2. Terrel will meet Crutchfield in their upper bracket semi-final round. Third Flight Winners Descending to the third flight the winner of the Croom-Jones match automatically advances into the semifinals to encounter Otis Hendren, victorious over Claude Herndon 5-4 and Ralph Dunlop 4-3. Gridiron standout Jim Alder man ran into rough weather in the first round as he lost to John Slack 4-3. Slack will face Don Massengale, 2-1 victor over Tom Seism, in the quarter-finals. In the lower brack of the last flight Simpson cruised into the semi-finals with triumphs over Ingeborg Dent and John Corbett. Tennis Results On the tennis slate No. 1 seed ed Kirby Jones lost no time in moving towards the intramural crown as he recorded opening round victories of 6-3, 6-2. Gene Corpening, previous winner over Fred Lacroix, will try to hold back "The Caboose" as he roars down the track to the semi-finals. Intramural League Standings 1. Peacocks 1.000 4-0 2.
